| Feeling hopeless with training HEY EVERYONE: ok i am at my witts end and if it wasnt for sanitary reasons i think i would just give up!!! so let me update you for those who dont know me... my little yorkie, is Lucy... shes 6 months old and i have had her for about 2 1/2 months. shes a doll... shes the sweetest little thing... but she has some serious poop issues!!! to start off.. i have been training lucy to use the pee pee pad (i also take her outside numerous times a day and she also gets walked once a day on the weekdays and twice a day on weekends) about 80% of the time she pees on the pad and outside... (witch is fine with me.. i know it takes time) but i have 2 other big problems... she will not poop on the pad!!! i find poop eery where but the pad and as far as pooping outside most of the time she does not poop on the grass but on the cement instead!!!! i have bought products that remove odor, products that make them want to go in a certain spot.. i have also tried putting her poop in the spots i want her to poop and nothing works!!!!!! she gets confined to the kitchen and dinning room when im not home and the last thing i wanted to do was cage her.. so i really need help!! also the other HUGE problem is she goes in my cats litter box and takes their poop out, brings it to her bed and chews on it (YUCK!!!!!) i cant understand what i am doing wrong!!! sorry this is soo long.. please please help!!! |

| Umm, sorry can't help with the pooping, as a pup Zhoie wasn't a poop on the pad kinda girl, it was always right beside it, but she always tickled on it. Then at 5 mos she stopped using her pad altogether and wanted to do jobs outise and has ever since. We have a fenced in backyard, she roams and then goes where she wants. I'm not sure if I could get her to use only where I wanted her to. When we are traveling she will pee/poo on the leash, so I think if I wanted her to go in a particular spot, she would have to be on a leash. As far as the kitty litter, most dogs to love that, so you will have to either block it off to her access or raise the litter box. I don't think she would ever stop going to get it out. Good luck.

| I've heard of people having to put down 2 separated potty pads; some like to pee on one and poo on a different one. That might be your case. I'm sure you know by now that Yorkies are somewhat difficult to housebreak, and 6 months is not long.... many take a year or more. Cat poo is a treat to most dogs, as cat food is higher protein and even when it comes out, is appealing to dogs. There are additives you can get your cat to eat that will make the poo taste aweful so the pup won't like it. I've heard a vet suggest meat tenderizer, or the food additive "Accent" with MSG. You need to make the litter box inaccessible to the dog.

| We have a cat and Jada would empty the litter box daily if I didn't keep it where she has no access. You will have to put the litter box where Lucy can't get to it.

Thor's Human Donating Member | I have two pads down in my apartment. Thor will pee on both, but only poop on one. It's the one furthest from the living room, where we spend most of our time. I think he feels it's more private. It takes a LOT of vigilence and patience to potty train a yorkie. Six months is still very young. Hang in there!

| Hey everyone: Thanks for the responses... so i went to walmart and bought a doggy gate to block lucy out of the dinning room, that way shes a little more confined to one spot.. i put two pads down now.. sooooooo so far... she pooped on the pad once!! lol.. i know its silly to be excited.. but shes never pooped on it.. so i have hope. i know it takes awhile to potty train a yorkie.. i just want to nip it in the butt now.. i dont want it to ever be "too late" thanks for the advice everyone! |
