| My yorkie poops where he wants I started putting dog diapers on my yorkie because I could not get him to stop peeing in my basement. Well now the diapers work fabulous but now he poops anywhere in the house. Put it this way, I have stepped in it one too many times. He poops in doorways, my stairs etc... what is going on? |

| Sounds like time to start at the beginning again and act like you are house training for the very first time. Whenever they get away from their training this much, you need to start over. Did you crate train first time? Might try that. I am no good at that method as I give in to their whines too easily. Crate doors never close here when I am at home. It takes longer my way though and I am having a time of it myself with Annie. She is 6 months old and not house-trained with any degree of assurance yet .

No Longer a Member | How old is he? How many times a day does he poop? How many times do you let him out to relieve himself? What methods have you been using to train him? The belly bands are really just supposed to be a crutch for potty training, they're really best used for males who mark. While you do use the bands be sure to change the pad every time he uses it, as well as cleaning his area off, leaving the band on is unsanitary and could cause a UTI which will only worsen his pee/poop issue. |

| If you post a little more information about your Yorkie, you might get some great advice. How old is he, is he neutered, (not neutered, marking is common) how long was he housebroken before it started, is he left in the basement by himself? What methods are you using to housetrain him... etc

| Our little guy is doing well - he pee's outside almost like clockwork but the poop is still happening indoors. we don't crate train, can't stand to hear the little guy cry all night. (we also like to sleep as well!) |

| I would second starting over from the beginning. Even if you don't use a crate, it might help to confine your pup if you can't watch him directly. It helps to be on a regular schedule--take him out often (or to the puppy pad), and praise praise praise when he gets it right!! (and treat--I found that the whole potty thing started making much more sense when I used a treat!) Praise/treat is most effective when it's immediate, so take treats out with you! A few things that I've found helpful: *potty commands--at first, I used the commands while Chewie was in the act of eliminating, and then used the same phrase when I was praising/treating him *potty bells--my family laughed at me for doing this until they saw how effective it was! I hung a big jinglebell on the door where we go out to potty, and every time we'd go out, I'd touch it with his paw and use the potty commands, then took him immediately to the grass. He caught on pretty quick--the little stinker likes to use it just to go play! Now we go out on a leash every time (otherwise he crawl under the porch and won't come out!), but I take him out EVERY time he rings. *PATIENCE. I think whatever your method, patience and consistence are the two biggest factors. I'm just now feeling like Chewie's reliably housetrained (knock on wood!), and he's 9 months old (we started at 3 months) Best of luck! I know it can be a frustrating process, but it's worth doing right!
