| Puppy So I am working on training my 9 week old puppy. I am amazed at how good he is already doing, however he does have accidents when he is out and about. He will go ANYWHERE on the carpet if not kept in the kitchen with his puppy pad. I don't have a pen for him because my apartment is just not big enough, however, I do have him confined in the kitchen when I can't watch him closely. He is to small to put a halter on so I can't tether him to me. I just feel like a bad Mommy for not letting him roam, but he uses the carepet no matter what if he is on the loose. Even though I put a puppy pad down. I think my other dog distracts him. Any ideas? |

| Can you get an x-pen and use the (4) sides (comes in 6 pieces) and leave him in with just his potty pad and food, water and crate if he has one. You can try the baby consigment shops and get them really cheap, other wise you can get them at Walmart or pet supply store. It will take a while and my suggestion is to not give him a lot of space right now till he starts using the pad. Its fine to take out of pen and play a bit only when you can watch him though. Put right back in pen when done. Also some trainers will say not to let him out of pen unless he is on a leash connected to you until he is trained. It is a lot of patience and work but worth it when done. He is still very young. After eating, drinking, playing take straight to pad. Place the pad just a few inches from his bedding (crate) so when he gets up he walks right to it. Good luck. |

| My place is to small for an x-pen also and at first Silver would potty anywhere and everywhere until we moved her puppypad to the end of the hall where no one could see her. I think she just liked the privacy. Maybe that would work for him?

| Thank you all for the wonderful ideas. I picked up a kitten halter yesterday and it fits him great. I'm working on getting the boyfriend not to give him free roam of the house while I'm at work. It's like parenting a child we have to agree, and work together or it just won't work. |

| Nine week-old is very young and keeping him penned in the kitchen is a great idea But having full roam of the house at that age might not be such a good one First of all at that age they have no control over their elimination so they will poop and pee whenever and wherever they need Second is that little pups will always want to be with you and can get into trouble quicker than you can imagine You don't need to keep him in the kitchen all the time but when he's with you just confine him to the room you're in
