| Advice on re-training an 8 month old Hey everyone, so I started Oliver on potty training at 10 weeks when he was really little. I had heard that crate training was very effective but I couldn't bare to leave him in a cage for most of the day. Well I was pretty successful with his potty training and had him on a strict schedule. Well he is now 8 months old and has been going on the carpet constantly and is off his schedule. I still go to take him out everyday on my lunch break like clockwork but he still has accidents OR I'll take him for a walk, he won't go at ALL and then as soon as I bring him in he goes! I was wondering if I should try starting over and just crate training him? I hate the thought of leaving him in a crate, especially since he's pretty much been roaming free for 8 months. Anyone have any advice on re-training an 8 month old pup? Is it too late for him to begin with crate training? Thanks!!

| Its never too late to start with any type of training- no matter what age the dog is- when potty training it is best to start from square one as if they were never trained- this seems to be the most effective method and the least confusing for the dog. Good Luck- we have had a couple relapses recently too |

| I would for sure not be giving him free run but you could get an xpen with his bed, food and water and a pee pee pad. It's how I trained mine to use the pads and they are pretty much 100% now.

| He actually isn't neutered yet....so you are correct, thats what it could be. I'm getting him neutered this month actually, I hope I didn't wait too long! What is the different between marking and peeing? Can you tell a difference?

| From what I can tell, Kaji's marking pee smells way stronger than regular pee. Also, for marking, all it takes is one little drop. When they are urinating, they are emptying their bladder so it's a bigger puddle. So even after they pee, they will either save pee just to mark, or even after emptying their bladder they will still try to lift the leg.
