| Bet You Can't Catch Me It's Lacie's favorite game. If she knows we want her to come, and she doesn't think we have a treat, she WILL run in the opposite direction. If she knows we have treats (she has an impeccable sense of smell), she doesn't leave our side. We can usually sneak one treat in our pocket and call her. After that, she assumes there are more treats where that one came from. It's getting worse as she gets older. We desperately need some more ideas. If I'm outside with her, I run away as I call her. She still doesn't come right away, and once I've tried it, it doesn't work again. She's just too stinkin' smart for her own good.

| Maybe it's too much reading? I just need suggestions on getting a smart puppy to come when she's called... the first time.

| I am not a trainer so hopefully more of an expert will respond soon. However, IMO I would start in a very small area with a little lead to teach her the command. You will have to SLOWLY make the area bigger and bigger and move from having no distractions around to slowly introducing her to the command with "controlled" distractions that you plan ahead of time (ie., loud noise, someone walking by, etc.) and just praise praise priase praise her. Until she gets it, I would never let her off lead outside; EVER! When training Monkey, I also tethered him to me and he just followed around anywhere I go. Whether inside or out. Good luck! No Longer a Member | make yourself into something fun, you need to be the most interesting thing she sees. Rizzo's favorite thing to do is run, so when we would go outside, to practice I would call his name to get his attention, and I'd take off as fast as I could go, if he started to chase, I'd say come and veer off in another direction and he'd follow. I'd keep saying "come" until he caught up to me, and I'd stop and say good come Rizzo and give him a treat. After a few times of this he now comes to me first time, usually |

| Mine does the exact same thing! I thought she was just a weird She thinks it's a game or something because often times she'll run a little, then stop and look back to make sure I'm following her. I will have to try the running thing. She loves running/chasing, so hopefully that will work. I've pretty much given up on ever having her walk outside with me without leash. |

Toys do work more often than running. Sometimes I wonder if she has too many toys at her disposal. We'll try to lure her with one toy, and she'll grab a different toy (or stick or leaf). Thanks

| My Yorkie Zach runs whenever he's outside or doesn't want to be bothered with me for some reason or another. Usually when I have his sweater in my hand he runs. He hates to wear sweaters or jackets. Now all I have to say is "Look What I Have" and he comes right away. My friend almost untrained him by saying "Look What I Have" and not giving him anything so he stopped coming and I had to start all over again. you can't tease them like that. |

| We have this problem in the house. He's soo excited with me outside, but inside, he's decided that hiding is the best thing in the world. Well it's getting to a point that all of our beds need to be blocked off so that he can't get under them... he just goes under and backs up when you're trying to scoop him up.
