My yorkie is 2 years old and our cat 1. We got the cat when she was a baby and they have grown up together. The cat is now twice the size of the dog. They've always played well together until the last few weeks. Now I'm finding the cat's hair on the floor and in the dog's mouth. The cat will just be running around the house and our yorkie will go after her viciously and get a mouthful of hair. She hasn't broken the skin yet. Can anyone tell me what to do about this, and why it may have started in the first place? Bean is crated so they are not left alone when we're gone. Any help would be appreciated!

Don't know why it started but you need to stop it. Tell him 'No' (very firmly) when you catch him chasing the cat. If you need to put a leash on him for a few days to break him of this habit, do so. When they are together and acting nice, give the dog some treats, in the cat's presence. He will learn he gets treats when kitty is there, and he'll be nice.

He may be jealous that the cat is out and about when he is kenneled.

Our dog is trying to be playful when it attacks the cat and the cat misinterprets it and attacks my dog. They have been a lot more understanding since I started giving them treats at the same time. They have only been together for 3 months, so I am hoping after another 3 months they will be all settled and best buddies. They should be they are the same size!

I love it when cats and dogs play. I have seen cats antagonize dogs into play or mischief and the dogs get blamed for it. LOL. The way I see it, cats have the upper hand when it comes to play. (Play! Not with aggressive mean dogs that intend harm.) When they have had enough, they can get up and away to places that dogs cannot get to, and with their claws, they can inflict pretty serious scratches to the eye and nose. So if the cat is really serious about not wanting the attention, he/she will definitely let the onery pups know about it and avoid the pup altogether. They just don't want their owners to know they actually enjoy the attention they are getting from the dog. LOL... You know, they're cats! Cats and dogs are like brothers and sisters. One picks on the other until something gets broke then try to be the first to taddle on the other so mom is on their side first. And while mom is scolding the other, one is behind mom saying nanny nanny boo boo LOL.

I just got Remy yesterday, he is 6 months old and not neutered yet. We also have Zoe, our cat, who is 3 years old. He is very curious and runs at her, but I think he only wants to play with her. She is a very mellow cat who has never had any other animals in the house. I want them to get along as they are both great animals. Any suggestions?

The dog is behaving better with the cat now. They've always played well together and the rough behavior left as quickly as it came on, who knows maybe it was a full moon! Our cat is not the brightest and even though she's larger than the dog she does not try to get away when the dog id too rough. Luckily Bean has settled down.

I recommend exposing Remy and the cat to each other slowly, either with a door or crate door between them where they can smell each other without having total access. When that seems to be going well, progress to exposure while Remy is leashed. Slowly build on that until they grow comfortable with each other.

my himalayan cat is 11yrs old and my female yorkie is 3 and she chases him all over the place..the only time she gets mad at him when he jumps on the bed to lay at the top of the big pillow i have propt behind me..yorkies are a 1 person dog i feel they may like everyone else but there is that 1 person in the family they favor and i think your dog is jealous of your cat and trying to say he's the boss but yes you have to stop the biting cause sooner or later it will break the skin..my yorkie sometimes sounds like a squeky toy running after the cat..gl
