| ''sit'' Hi everyone!! I just have to tell you all about my little Poppy!! She is 8weeks old and tonight we tried training her to ''sit''. We chopped up a few treats that she would be able to eat and at first she wast getting it but after about 10mins she was doing Really well and everytime i said sit she was sitting her bottom down and looking at me. The Problem i am having is when i go to give her the treat she jumps up at my hand for it. Do i still gve her to treat or say ''no'' and wait untill she sits again? How many times do i say sit i seem to be saying it over and over untill she sits. Am i doing this right? xxxx

| Dudley always seems to "pop" right up after sitting on command to get his treat... Dudley just can not stay seated and eat his treat...

| you can lure her into a sit by first say "sit" then while holding a treat and start at her nose and drag it back to her neck, she should keep watching it and plop into a sit. The second her butt hits the ground lots of praise and the treat. it's ok if they pop right up, you can lengthen the duration after they get it, and then teach wait and stay. And those are 2 different things. Wait is wait until I call you or come get you. Stay would be stay there no matter what. |

| Hi, this is my first post. I have a 10 week old yorkie and I was just wondering what treats you give her? |

| I would not give her the treat if she jumps up like that. She should stay in the sit position. If you give her a treat when she jumps up, she will think that is what you want her to do.

| While I don't have perfectly trained dogs, I did at one time hire a trainer, so I do know how to train. It's a work in progress for us still. The trainer said NOT to repeat a command many times. It should be said one time. If you continually say "sit", then the first time you say sit doesn't really matter. The dog can choose to ignore you because she knows you are going to say it again and again. If you say "sit" 10 times, then they can choose to sit on, let's say the 8th time. That's not going to work. I would not give the treat until Poppy is calm. You don't want her to think you are treating the jumping up. Dogs are very literal. With that being said - good job training an 8 week old puppy! She's doing great!
