While I don't have perfectly trained dogs, I did at one time hire a trainer, so I do know how to train. It's a work in progress for us still.
The trainer said NOT to repeat a command many times. It should be said one time. If you continually say "sit", then the first time you say sit doesn't really matter. The dog can choose to ignore you because she knows you are going to say it again and again. If you say "sit" 10 times, then they can choose to sit on, let's say the 8th time. That's not going to work.
I would not give the treat until Poppy is calm. You don't want her to think you are treating the jumping up. Dogs are very literal.
With that being said - good job training an 8 week old puppy! She's doing great! |
