| Pees on pads! YAY! Poos everywhere else! BOO!! My beautiful, wonderful, amazing Piper will pee on the pee pads 95% of the time. She still will squat at random times and pee in the playroom floor or on the couch....yes, I love her. BUT she will only poo on the pad 10% of the time. Most of the time she just poos wherever she wants to. Today it was on the fireplace hearth and in the playroom. All before 9:30am. We always tell her no or the equivalent and then put her on the pad. We also have a small area (only big enough for the pad) set up with a pen around it so we can put her in there, she is on the pad, and she can 'go potty' as we tell her. She will pee until she can't squeeze out another drop but she just doesn't seem to want to pee in there. Any tips or hints?? Thanks!!

| I was having this same problem. For the first 2 weeks we had our new puppy, he refused to poop on the pad. He caught on to peeing pretty quickly, but just would not poop on the pad. We kept trying to catch him when he started pooping and moving him to the pad and eventually it must've clicked, because for the last week, he's been pooping on the pad about 80% of the time. We make sure to praise him when he does and he gets a treat. I'm not sure what else to suggest. Maybe we just got lucky? |

| Let me guess - since the peeing is under control, you've lightened up and have given the puppy unsupervised freedom in the home? Oops! Sorry, but you're gonna have to watch them or crate them until trained. For us, we learned Bailey's pooping habits (luckily she poops just once a day) - then we stayed outside until she pooped - then praised and treated. I remember the days when hubby and I had daily discussions about Bailey's poop..."did she poop yet?" - lol. We couldn't relax until she pooped. It takes constant supervision and consistency. Its not easy - I couldn't have done it without my husband's help. Good luck!!

| Actually, she has run of whatever part of the house I am in at the time. I can see my living room, kitchen, and playroom all day. She is crated when we are gone or asleep. I know that she typically poos three times a day...one of which is first thing in the morning, the second being the next potty break after that. The third is a hit or miss. First thing in the morning we take her out of her crate and put her in the pen with the pee pad/holder. She pees immediately then looks at me. I always tell her "No, Piper. You know you need to go stinky. Go potty." Around 4 min later she will finally poo (sometimes two different piles) on the pad. It is that questionable third poop that I seem to miss more often than not. I put her in her pen with the pad/holder every 2 hours and I move the pen between those times so she has access all day. I also have a pad/holder in the kitchen and the upstairs bedroom. Quote:

| i TOTALLYYYYYY relate with you!! Bella was like that for a long time! She peed on the pad but never poo... so this might be grose but it kind of worked! I put the poo in the pad when she did it in the wrong place that way she knows where it has to go!. I did that for a while till one day she did it by herself and i gave her treats and all kind of love! Every time she did the righ thing, i gave her something really delicious!! Also i looked at her schedule and between what times she would poo and I put her in a small area where the pee pad was. It is very very frustrating and when they do the wrong thing! it makes you sooooooo mad but then you look at their little faces saying IM SOOOOORYYY! AND ears down that i couldnt be to mean to do anything than say NOOO BELLA It definetly takes time and patience you just have to watch them 24 7 and hopefully they will get it one day! It took her a while to understand! |

| We have had Bella a week now. When she is in her pen she will pee on the pad but not poop. She will poop right next to it but not on it. If she is out of her pen and we dont catch her in time then she will pee or poop wherever she is. I even have a pad outside the pen but when she is outside of the pen she wont use it. Sometimes she will go outside but then sometimes you can stay out there with her for 20 minutes and she wont do anything and then come in and put her in her pen and she will pee. The only definite time I know she will go outside is when she first gets up in the morning. |

| Pooping on rug, but pee's on pad I see every one has the same problem, our dog is 8 years old, and when we are gone long time she will poo on rug. Isn't there a way to break them of this. She is fine if we are around. She is pretty good about peeing. But just like the humping she did, we broke her of that after 5 years of that. Any suggestions to get her to poo on pad. Thx |

| I know that some yorkies are really particular about where they poop and pee and like to do it in separate places. Ellie didn't want to pee and poop in the same place for about 2-3 months but it just took constant vigilance to catch her about to poop and pick her up and put her on the pad. Luckily she is like clockwork when it comes to pooping and goes twice a day around the same times. Maybe you can set up two peepee pads and if you notice she likes a particular spot to poop, just put the other pad there. |

| I have a new yorkie pup and he's about 4 months and I'm training him to use the puppy pads and not go out and he wouldn't use his pad to poo. I had to take him outside to poo and I didn't want to do that so I called his breeder and she suggested newspaper. I then laid newspaper down next to his poo pad tray and he uses the pad for pee and the newspaper for poo. She said that they don't like to pee and poo in the same place. He's been doing great for the last month. |

| This is all great advice! My little Gia is doing the same thing. She'll pee on the pads, and I give the "Academy Award" of praising & a treat. Then I know that she'll have to poo in the next 5 minutes, so I wait.... I have my entire hallway lined with pads right now, to give her space to sniff around and choose her location. Unfortunately, she just wants to get out, and shows no interest in having to go poo... until I let her out, then she finds a nice spot & squats to relieve herself. I try not to get upset, and I pick her up and move her to the pad. (often this leads to "bombs" being dropped as I move her, that I must go back to clean immediately following). I set her on the pads and she just runs off.... Last week she was catching on, and using the pads. I had to go out of town for two nights, so my mom & dad puppy-sat, and unfortunately she didn't stick to the pads at their home, and now she's back to not using them at my home. Even in her "room" at night, she'll pee on the pads, but she'll poo right next to it on the floor. It is so frustrating - - but I will try the newspaper idea! Maybe she just wants a different texture? Or perhaps she likes the articles (wink) It's nice to know that this is a common "trait" for yorkies, and my girl isn't alone in this mindset. LOL |
