| My yorkie HATES a collar or nylon sm vest I've had my yorkie for about one month. He is four months old. He's normally very playful and very energetic UNTIL I place a collar on him. I'm hoping to be able to take him for walks especially when I camp. When I place the collar on him he stops all play and will just sit in his bed. I've been told he will get used to it. I've tried for five days and he just sat/slept. I don't want to take the play out of him!!!! Please...any suggestions. |

| Are you wanting to put a collar on your yorkie for identification tags or are you planning on using the collar to attach a leash to it and use it for walks? In my opinion, collars on small dogs should only be worn for I.D. tags and a leash should never be attached. Yorkies have very sensitive necks and can develop tracheal issues over time if they are walked w/ a collar. They should wear harnesses that strap around the body so no pressure is put on their neck. I forgot to add.. My boys were also very reluctant when I first put their harnesses on them. Eventually they just got used to them being there and now they don't notice them at all. They love putting their harnesses on because that means mommy is taking them for a walk!

| Collars should really only be used for their tags. For a leash it's safer for them if you'll use a harness or a vest, puts the pressure from the leash around the middle instead of across their throat. I'd just put one on him and then leave it. Use treats and his favorite toys to encourage him to play and run around with the harness/vest on. If he's as food motivated as mine is, it won't take long at all for him to forget about what he's wearing. Plus the vests will give you a chance to play dress up |

| Welcome to YT!! I think it's safe to say that we all on here DO NOT use collars for walks with out babies. This breed is prone to problems with their little throats, it's best we don't aggravate it. Your baby is still very young, and will take some working with to get him use to collars and harnesses. Walking on a leash will be another adventure all together. Just be patient, treat for good behavior, and if you need help, don't hesitate to post.

| Thanks to everyone how responded to my post!!!! I first tried the small collar...but realized that wasn't a good idea. I have a small mesh vest/harness and he realllyyy doesn't like it!!! What I'm trying now is to put the vest on him.....and then take him byebye....hoping that he will put the two together. Others have told me to just keep it on him and he will get used to it. Do ya'll agree? I wasn't sure to do that....or to only put it on him when we go byebye. |

| Either way your puppy will need time to get use to the harness.

| Hot rod did not and really does not like strapped harnesses. He does not mind a vest harness at all.
