| Teaching to Lie Down Shade is really stubborn when it comes to this. I taught him how to sit and beg earlier so he knows how to do that. But he keeps eating stuff off the floor so i was forced to teach him how to leave it. But now i want to teach him how to lie down but he won't. When i lower the treat on the ground to make him lie down, he stares at it, like i want him to Leave It. So because of that command, he won't lie down. How do i get him to? |

| With Max, I held the reward at his nose and while moving the reward downward, I had to push gently on his shoulders. |

| I worked with Zhoie by putting her on my dining room chair. I had her sit first then, I very slowly lower the treat just below the edge of the chair until she was all the way down on her belly. Once, they get it, then add the down command. Good Luck!

| I had to actually put it near his muzzle and go downward while also pushing it almost inside his mouth to go down. That's like a cheap way of doing it but after he gets that, I'll start on all of your advices! Thanks! You guys actually gave me this idea to start him off! |

I forgot to indicate above that I started Max in the sit position, as you did with Zhoie.

| I tried all of the above methods, but none worked for Kaji. He's just too stubborn! I finally found something that worked. I put him in a sit, and as I said down, I gently pulled his front legs with one hand to slide him into a down. As soon as he was down, I would give him a treat with the other hand. After much repetition, I would do the same thing, remove my hand and if he stayed in the down without me holding the legs, he got the treat. Eventually he didn't need my help and does down all by himself now.

I put Teddy on the couch and told him to sit, then I moved the reward downward when I gave the "down" command. He did it on the first try! I did it once more on the couch and then moved him to the floor. He went down both times. I'm looking forward to dinner time and working on this some more.

| Every down command, or every command like sit, stay, beg? Sorry for my response. It's just that Kaji doesn't bark, and I know most people will consider this a blessing, but I find it a bit odd. He'll cry instead.

When i say 'sit', he sits and barks. When i say 'lay down' he lays and barks. I just taught him rollover and he barks at me the whole time he's rolling. It is funny, but I would love to get him to stop. I feel like he's yelling at me while I'm telling him what to do.

| Hannah had a hard time doing down for me! To teach her, I put her in a sit posistion and then took treat to her nose, down to her chest and from there slide it down to the floor. I also taught my 6 year old dog how to "down" this way also and he knows nothing! Hannah didnt like it at first, but now that I have taught her to roll over, she loves down! Now I just have to get her to stay so she can graduate training class in one and a half weeks! |
