| Keep in mind Jackson is a larger Yorkie and I know what he can handle, what he likes, when to stop things, etc. I can read him really well. I think if I had a Yorkie smaller than 5 or 6lbs, I'd be more cautious for sure. I think you ultimately have to know your own dog first, and be sure you can form trust and respect between yourself and the bigger dog as well. I would never let Jackson into a dog park full of 10-30 big dogs, it's just too unsafe and he would have no fun. I have no problems with him playing one-on-one with a larger dog.

| Thanks britster! My "nephew" Luchi is an awesome dog! I was never the biggest GSD fan before my friend got one, but I'm hooked now. They really are (usually) great dogs. They listen a lot better then these yorkies, that's for sure (in my experience )! Haha p.s. I LOVE the video! Too cute!

| They are amazing dogs. I'd love to own another one day but I'd have to be really dedicated. Most need extensive socialization, training and exercise. They're TOO smart so their mind needs to be kept busy, right? We didn't know better and ours got put down @ 4yrs old due to attacking a stranger on our property. Lack of knowledge, us being bad owners. I've been pretty blessed with Jackson, he has no major behavioral issues or anything and we've worked on training a lot but coming when called sure seems to happen only when he wants it too they've got a mind of their own!

| So sorry about your dog...that's so sad. I hope you're able to own one again one day!

| It can work but I am a stay at home mom and they are never left alone together when I have to leave, I am just too cautious. I know in my heart that my GSD could roll over while they are snuggled up together and really hurt my little 3.2 lbs little man, so we are a preventive family. If you want to know how I introduced them I will be more than happy to tell you.

| Its so nice to hear stories of other GSDs and Yorkies living together. My 3 arre never seperated, they live as a pack, they play, eat, sleep together,. Alfie is about 8lbs so he's a good size. They have learnt to live together from day one and have all been trained, the GSDs especially.I don't think its fair to say that a big dog and little dog can't live together, whats to say a yorkie wouldn't turn on another yorkie? If dogs are taught to live together and trained well then it fine. To the OP I hope your yorkie and your son's GSD have many years of socialising together. x

No attacking here -- this is a discussion/debate. I don't mean to be flip, but I think you should give humans as much benefit of the doubt as you do dogs. | |

| Maxine was 2 1/2 years old (Yorkie) when we got Carlo (Cane Corso 120 pounds). Yes, he was 17 pounds at 9 weeks, and was a little ball of fire. We kept them seperate when we were away, and gradually introduced them to one another. For some reaon he just knew to be gentle with her, and other small dogs. We still kept them seperate unless we were around as he could inadvertantly stepped on her. We have never had a problem. We still worry then they both go running to the door, but so far, Maxine has never hurt him! |

| I have a GSD and a Yorkie. When I brought my yorkie home when my GSD was 7 months. At first we kept an eye on them all the time. Make sure there are no toys or food around. My yorkie would take them and at frist my GSD did not like it at all, she would snap at my yorkie and then hannah would be scared of her for an hour or so. Now it has been about 3 months since I had the yorkie in the house and the play all the time! They are best friends, but like you said my GSD plays rough!!! She sticks hannahs head in her mouth, she will pick her up by the neck and drag her. Most of the time it is just play though and she knows not to hurt her. When they are outside, we do need to watch them because they tend to get out of control, but then we have "quiet time" for a bit and they calm down. Hannah, my yorkie loves it!! She keeps going back for more. They are both puppies so we let them play fight. Chloie( my gsd) knows that that is her sister and not to hurt her! |

| Omg its crazy. My gsd is 10 months and the yorkie is almost 6. Its a lot of work but they love to play. I got hannah at 4 pounds, and now she is about 8, so she holds her ground to the 60 pound dog. Its so funny to watch them! |
