What I was saying is that it is my understanding that Kennel will take a pup of our breed even if it is not one of our pups from our litter as we have the skill and understanding to deal with it and get it to a new home or deal with it. JL |

I -my knowledge of social skills and aggression come from a 8 year love of one wee girl that taught me what was needed to socialize all dogs well. That wee girl should not have made it passed her 1st birthday nor live full and mainly happy years as she make most peoples toe nails curl with her wild child behaviour. For that reason I extend the rare hand once and a while to intake a yorkie that needs the skill set I learned at her paws and because I never want to see any dog go through her pain do to lack of socialization by the breeder and her first owner and bad gentics. She never should have been born but she is here and I will not ever give up on her until she says she can not handle it any more. What she taught me I have had the good fortune to pass on to others that ask and to a few dogs directly that either needed rehab or pups that I worked social skills with as new borns. I have not said through this whole thing that I am a rescue I said I have the skill set to help and that I could and would and then place Mindy once I got her ready. That I am around to help with hard cases in my area if the need arises as there are few that can and will take on a biter. I would like to be doing a lot more of this and am ready to do so. JL |

I was speaking about a breeder taking in a "rescue" pup and not one of their own. It should be a standard for all breeders to be willing and able to take back any of their animals at any point. What I was trying to say is ifa breeder decided that there was a dog that they wanted to "rescue" if you take that dog into your home and agree to "rescue" her then it is your responsibility to see her progress to the end result of a permanent home. No matter what the cost or obstacles presented whether it would be medical or training you made a commitment. The rescuer (in this case we are talking about a breeder) should not take on ANY dogs unless they have full commitment to that animal. When you rescue you need to have a plan of action and be committed emotionally and financially. You cannot say "well I didn't know she was like this" or "we are not willing to do that" or "we have bills to pay" that is not how a rescue works. If a rescue does not have the funds then they do not take in dogs. Now it you were a charitable organization capable of raising funds to pay for these expenses that is a totally different story. But when a private individual takes in a dog and says they rescued him then they need to step up and finish what they began. Otherwise they should not have begun in the first place. IMO an organization with many members and the ability to fund raise, apply for grants, work with the public as a GROUP, etc would offer a larger number of dogs that can be save. Good financial backing is a MUST when it comes to rescue. You never know what you might be faced with and the money needs to be there to address any issues that might arise. It's getting late so I hope that makes sense  |

You're right they are a rarity...the AKC has NO listings in their Breeder Referral listings. However, I was able to view a handful (5 to be exact) of Breeders under the BRTCA. This kennel was amazing: Black Russian Terriers of Chornaya Zastava BRT former Siberian Star North American kennel Detroit Michigan US. We sell puppy puppies and dogs of show quality :) |

I would suggest you look into Midnight Solo out of London Ontario. Jean does great work with the dogs and this bred. JL |

We have had the good fortune of working with Jean in a litter and hope to again down the road. The kennel owner I work with has had a Blackie non show for around 8 years and it was one of the first out west. Her female right now is 4th over all blackie in Canada and is a stunning girl. We do not have any working titles on our dogs as yet as we wait for hip and elbows to get OVC before we risk them so that is my project on them now as and when they are not on the road with the handler showing. I do have a CGN on one and he is ready for the rally O ring but he decided he wanted to live with another family without kids and girl dogs so I am starting again. We have a harness for drafting and are waiting on a cart and a seminar to happen for that. It is so nice to have dogs passed that two year old stage to get going with them more. JL |
Best friends is not an option. Just wanted everyone to know that mindy is still with us, being cared for by karla who loves her and is working hard to find a solution for a very difficult situation and all options are being exhausted including best friends which has turned mindy down...as you will read below in the email attached. Sadly this is the story with many of the rescues she has contacted in the last week. And for the umpteenth I am just the flipping messenger and am in no way helping with any of the details concerning mindy! Other YT members are working with Karla to find a rescue for mindy. I AM NOT ONE OF THEM! Also someone asked on this thread why before a trainer was "too expensive" and why now one is not. The answer is because Karla called all over the state of WA to find one that was reasonable for their price range/budget and would work with/had time for mindy and just recently found one. Seems around here that when accusations are made direct proof is needed to counteract their validity...so here you go....take notice of the date of this email...don't bother blasting me (yet again) I'm just delivering proof and not continuing to read comments. Again, karla's email is available to anyone who would care to make their own judgements concerning this situation and not just jump on the band wagon that she is evil...:aimeeyork -------Original Message------- * From: Michele Sawicki, Best Friends Date: 5/31/2010 10:53:17 AM To: mommadog1@gmail.com Subject: RE: Need help with a small dog in need NOW! * Dear Karla, Thank you for contacting Best Friends Animal Society regarding this aggressive yorkie you so kindly took in for your friend.* I am so sorry to hear about your situation with her. We receive 2100 emails a month like yours from animal lovers like yourself asking us to take anywhere from 1 to 1000 animals.* It would actually take 295,000 sanctuaries the size of Best Friends to provide for all the homeless pets nationwide: so like you, we are profoundly frustrated as well.* We average about 125 requests a week from pet owners like yourself who have dogs that can’t be safely placed in another home due to the risk of injury to others.* We have over 200 dogs with aggression issues in our care that must live in a specialized area, receive special handling and work daily with trainers and behaviorists.* Many of these dogs will remain with us for the rest of their lives because they can’t be safely placed in a home. So it is beyond our space capacities and resources to responsibly take on any more dogs that need this kind of work.* As you can imagine, we will only accept animals when we can provide them the care, rehabilitation and quality of life they deserve. Although I completely understand your situation and you have obviously been trying very hard to place this dog that wasn’t even your responsibility, there are very few options available for dogs with aggression issues.* The harsh truth of the matter is that without the needed behavior help, you may not find anyone else willing to take this dog on and you could also be held legally liable if she bites someone. The most realistic approach is to work out the problem right within the dog’s current living environment as you will find that that most sanctuaries and rescues, Best Friends included, cannot accept dogs with a history of aggression because of the risk they present to volunteers, visitors and staff. Additionally, most organizations don’t have the resources to give dogs like this the regular training they need to change their behavior nor can they afford consultations with a behaviorist who can help identify the triggers of the dog’s behavior. Frequently, the aggressive behaviors of dogs in rescues and sanctuaries worsen over time due to their isolation from people as well as the over-stimulation of being surrounded by many other animals. It’s a difficult but necessary decision to make as to whether or not a sanctuary placement would be a good option for this dog. For a listing of sanctuaries, please go to World Animal Net. The other option we have recommended in the past is to see if you can find a trainer or a behaviorist who would be willing to take her on a live in basis to see if with time and work she could be rehabilitated. You can consult the directory of trainers certified by the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) that can be found at Dog Trainer Search for trainers in your area. We have had some success with this strategy in the past. Thank you for all your efforts on her behalf.* I do hope a solution can be found for you and this dog.* Please let me know if you have any questions or need further assistance. * Kindest regards, * Michele Sawicki Michele Sawicki Regional Specialist Community Animal Assistance Best Friends Animal Society 5001 Angel Canyon Road Kanab, Utah 84741 435-644-2001 X 4509 micheles@bestfriends.org Best Friends Animal Society Home Page Best Friends Network * "Not all who wander are lost" '‘All animals dream, only dogs dream of us" * Quote:

Best Friends Animal Society - Staff & Bios I am not seeing her name on the list but I may have missed something. Although I am aware that if you google her she is attached some how to best friends. Frankly if Karla wishes to carry this on she either needs to rejoin this board and stop looking for attention by sending messages through people. IF she is proud of what she is doing and how it was handled then she does not need to defend herself and she asked to leave. No one booted her is my understanding so she is welcome to rejion and talk this out if she can or wants too. I did not jump on any band wagon at all. I simple said she was unable to answer the questions asked and it concerned me. JL |
She didn't send any message through me, I decided it was necessary to post and I'm sorry if you misunderstood...the bandwagon comment was not directed at you! You have been kind all the way through this...I just wanted people to see that she is exhausting every lead... |
