| Who's pup uses a doggy door? Some of you may know my first foster Katie has been adopted. Her new family uses a doggy door, and since I never used one with her, and she's never been through one, does anyone have any tips other than treating her on either side? Any and all tips appreciated.

Luv my 7 Furkids Donating Member | Out of 7, 6 of mine use the doggie door (when I open it), I have never been able to get Toby to use it, he is afraid of things and thats one. Some of mine I bribed with treats and calling them through the other side, and some just learned from the others. Good luck. |

| We just put one in about a month ago, it is through the wall next to the slider and has 2 flaps. We started with pinning both flaps up for about a week, then letting it down on them as they came through. then after another week or so we put the outer flap down. We had no problems with our dogs learning to use it. Even the smallest goes through and we never had to give any treats. We just gently put them through the first few times. Some of the dogs got it first time. Unfortunately we still have accidents in the house when it is raining I even have a retractable awning so they go on the deck if they want.. |

| I have one that leads to my deck....I swear Lola got it in like 5min....I went out side with treat and open the flap and out she came...now I can't get her to stop going out there at 11pm and barking at everyone that walk by Some will learn faster then others...it may take time...try taping the flap of the doggie dog up until she learn to go through it...

| All of mine use the doggie door and all it took was calling them through with either a treat or their favorite toy on the other side. When Peanut and Nikki got here all they did was watch the girls go through one time and they followed. They love their doggie door and so do I...they will get chasing each other around the yard and run through that door at full speed! It's hilarious but I swear, if anyone misses the flap they're going to knock themselves out! |

| We also close ours when we are gone and at night time when we go to bed and then I put a potty pad down at the door. We have outside lights so I can watch them for their last 'potty' and then the door gets locked until morning. Our yard is fenced and we have a concrete patio area in part of it...I keep their playpen out there so I can pull it accross the end of the patio and block off the grass when it rains or when it gets dark out. I do love the doggie door and it does make life easier and accidents less but you still have to watch them whe they go out. I have never had anything come through ours that didn't belong but I did worry about raccoons when we lived on the lake. |

| LOL! My hubby had to cut strips in the plastic flap for ours to go through. Max is so funny - he likes to stick his head through and just watch when hubby is mowing the lawn. He doesn't want to be out there but he wants to see what's going on.

| All mine except Skyler who has very short legs use the door without a problem. I showed them a few times how the door opened and even held it open for them at first and they got the hang of it right away. No treats required. My doggy door leads to a fenced in deck and it is a great way for them to get fresh air when I can't take them for a walk. Hope that helps.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | We taped the flapped up & coaxed Roxy through a few times to show her...offering treats from the other side. Back & forth a few times. Every day or two we dropped the flapped a little more. It wasn't long at all and she thought it was the greatest thing ever. When I'm going out at the same time, she will usually wait for me to close the door so she can go out her own door. She thinks she's really hot stuff w/her own door. : ) If treats don't work, I'd try favorite squeaker toys to coax them through making it a game.

| Doggy Door I took the flap off when it was time for my baby to start using the doggy door. I can't remember how old she was though, maybe 6 months or so. I needed to replace the flap, so it worked out perfectly. I showed her that she could go outside, which she loves and she used it for about a week until I put the flap on. It only took her seconds to figure the flap thing out. I do lock it so nothing can come in or to control her going out. My neighbor's yorkie won't use the doggy door unless she tapes down the magnet. She is 8 lbs, mine is 3 lbs. Good luck; I'm sure your baby will get it. |

| Bella learned at 13 weeks by just watching my other dogs and cats go through it. She wanted to follow them so she did! These little Yorkies are a bright bunch!
