This is so true. I tried to train Buster to go on the potty pads and he wanted no part of it. He is trained to go outside but now there are times that it would be nice if he were pad trained.

| The strict schedule idea worked really well for Chloe. She's going on ten months old and now the only time she has an accident in the house, it's my fault. Generally, because I either got off schedule or she just completely slipped my mind. My new problem though is getting her to ASK to go outside. If I do forget her (which granted has only happened a couple of times), or she over ate/drank and needs to go sooner than I expect, she doesn't understand to TELL me that she needs to go. We've tried the bell, but she's scared of the noise. I also make her bark at me before I'll take her out (while asking if she needs to go potty). Still no luck...I'm about resigned to just having to always be on a schedule and not being able to trust her completely. -C

| We bought our 4 lb Yorkie Bella an x-pen and she climbs right out of it, like a bug. She came to me at 6 mo and was use to a doggie door and going outside on the breeders deck with pee pads, so house breaking has been tough. My other yorkie, Bit is fine, she hardly has accidents and goes outside, never pee pad trained. I have one room with pee pads in it and Bella has been using them, but there are times she still pees on the carpet. We tried the cage method, but she has such anxiety she shakes as soon as she sees the cage. I just did not have the heart to keep her in the cage all day while Bit was out running free. Any suggestions would be helpful! |

| Guliver, my older dog is 100% trained to do his stuff out side. He can hold himself up to ten hours even! I take him down at 7.30am and when I get back from work at 5pm. it took a year to train him but he got it! I am reading and reading here, and I belive that its all about getting their bladder muscels stronger, and it takes time. dont give up!!Last edited by guliverandmaya; 01-18-2010 at 05:19 PM. |

| When we got Bells she had accidents in our old house all the time. I was like you getting a new house and worried... But in the new house she hasn't had any accidents unless she was sick. She always uses the potty pads or gets close anyways. But look out for door frames and corners of cabinets. I didn't look to see how old yours was, but teething Oh man let me tell you she has tore my door frame up. If I catch either one of them chewing on things besides toys I always tell them NO! Good Luck with your house!
