Do yorkies ever really learn to potty outside or on pads ALL the time? Just curious, I'm STILL having potty issues with Sadie. The bell works every now and then, and she did pretty good on potty pads during her spay (we were off schedule with outside training due to her stiches having to be dry and it's snowing out). She was doing pretty good about always peeing outside, but I've never been able to get her to always poop outside. She still squats on the floor and even peeing now is not going well. We're moving to a new house in two weeks and I just want to know if we should pretty much start our training over from scratch. She'll finally have a fenced in yard and a walkout back door with no stairs, so i'm hoping she can learn that ringing the bell lets her out the door and she can do her thing out there on her own with me watching. I was having to pick her up and carry her to a chicken wire fenced pen (not fenced yard) and then leash her up and go out hte front door during all the snow to a clearing spot. Do you think finally getting on a real routine and schedule will help her? Any advice to change her habits at the new place and avoid accidents all over my new floors? THanks |
I'm glad the spaying went well for Sadie. I would stick Sadie on a strict schedule now and then stay with it in the new house. I just posted this as an example of a strict potty schedule. It's similar to what I used with Sydney and it worked great. I used the crate method as explained in the book, "How to House Train Your Dog in Seven Days." thanks and I totally will be right there with her. I won't just let her out and ignore her. I'll be either on the back patio watching her or walking around the yard with her. I don't want a hawk or owl coming down to grab her. The yard isn't too big so it should be okay, plus it's got all the neighbor yards and their dogs in them, but I wouldn't just leave her out there by herself EVER...too scary and she's only 4 lbs. too small. |
I have 2 that are pad trained only and they rarely have a potty accident but occassionally poop in the wrong place. I have one who goes out side in a fenced area of my sliding glass door and she is not great at always going outside. She will use the little rug in the bathroom but I got her at 13 months and she has been very stubborn to train completely and I wasn't strict enough with her as she was older. Yorkies I had in the past were well trained outside. |
We had Zeus housebroken really fast. He was put in a xpen when we couldn't watch him. When he was out as soon as he ate and drank I took him outside immediately and told him to pee or poop. I would repeat this over and over and when he did go potty it was lots of praise over and over. When he did have an accident inside the house I never said a word to him and just cleaned it up. I read that all attention good or bad promotes the behavior. So I figured if he peed inside and I scolded him it was attention and he could not tell the difference. Hope this makes sense and good luck on the move. |

I have 4 that are trained on pee pads and outside . So far , no accidents . |

My Zeke, who is an almost 2 yrs. old neutered male, is both paper trained and outside trained. He olny uses his papers if for some reason we can't take him out or we are not home with him. |
for those of you doing well with potty training, what tips did you use to help with training yours. |
My puppy is 1 years old, she is 100% potty trained outside.... she has been for about 5 months... the ONLY time she has had an accident is when I was not home and my Lazy kids forget to take her out!! I never used a crate, however I did wake up at 12-3-6am... and took her out, even when she could hold her bladder.. I still did that for :thumbup:a few months, Just so she KNEW go outside. She slept with me I never let her feet his the floor when she was a puppy Id wake up and put her outside. I was very strick about sticking too it.... |

i'm so upset with her right now...she had on a onsie for her spay so she couldn't lick her stiches, i saw her get up from the couch, i went after her to get a coat and get her outside knowing she prob had to go, called for her to come to me, when i got to her in the kitchen, she was pooping into her snapped onsie. it was disgusting, so i unsnapped her, and told her to finish on the pee pads, she went off of them while i was cleaning her onsie in the sink to put in the wash, and she pooped on the floor over in the corner...she's so terrible!! but i'm kinda worried, this Nature's Variety Raw, Venison she's on is making her stools very soft, and today she didn't want to eat on schedule so i'm wondering if she's that off her normal. i've been feeding her out of normal routine, did i make her too full or off schedule that much? thanks |
