I started Guinness in sit, then I put a dumbell in his mouth supporting his lower jaw while keeping his head leveled. When he got to the point where he held it in his mouth I had him take the dumbell from my hand, then from my hand three inches off the ground, then off the ground etc..

Do you play tug-a-war with Jackson? While he is tugging, say firmly *give* while holding the toy with both hands to each side of his mouth. The most important thing is to hold the toy still and firm without pulling or tugging. Keep repeating the command and he should release the toy.

Yep, we play tug all the time, thanks for the tips! He's fairly good at "drop it" as long as I have something to replace it with (a treat, or a new toy). Thanks!

Jackson your a star! Isn't it great when you can incorporate what they already know? I like it when it only five minutes.

.... our yorkies are making up for potty training. Lol!

Definitely! I honestly didn't think he would pick up on that trick at ALL, let alone within 2 minutes!! Thanks Guinness for being Jackson's inspiration for the trick! lol. Now I'm gonna have to start working on him bringing it from farther away later tonight. It's so funny, the ones that are supposed to be easy like "shake" and "take a bow" etc were the hardest for Jackson yet the "expert" ones like limp and tissue come easy to him. He's so backwards!

Uni's backwards too. Remember how she was always pulling on the leash? Well we got a retractable leash, like we weren't supposed to, and guess what, no more pulling.

No more screaming too! She has more freedom with the extra long cord, we got the 23' one. The only thing is she gets it stuck around her legs sometimes.

Wow really?!? lol. That's great news though!! Hey, if that's what works... it's totally worth it!

Also - the video wasn't working right for me either, it only played once. I may have to re-upload it or something... I thought it was just my computer. I deleted it, I'll uplaod it again later tonight.

Uni should definitely be able to do that trick... since she plays basketball, I think it's the same principle, except easier than bball.

Haha, the only problem is that we don't use tissues, we just use TP for our noses too. If she can break off a square of TP and bring it to me that would be really impressive.

LOL, yeah, we usually use TP as well, but surprisingly, there was a box of tissues under the main bathroom sink! ha! Go and buy a box specifically for Uni

Remedial Class student checking in

: Maximo is great with daily life rituals and routines, but he has a terrible attitude when it comes to learning basic commands and tricks. I couldn't get him to move beyond "sit", which he learned only to use against me.

Watching Jackson and Uni in the videos, and reading your progress reports, I have been inspired to start working on my defiant little guy. Don't laugh, but I consider it a minor miracle that Maximo learned "stay" this week, and he almost has "shake" down. He still gives me a look like, "What the heck are you doing to my paw?"

Next is down. Shouldn't take more than a month.

What kind of cameras are all of you using for video?
