Angry Can't Control My Babies Barking

I am having a very difficult time with my babies barking. Everytime someone comes to the door and rings the doorbell, they bark incessantly. When I open the door they are barking so loudly I can't hear the person who is speaking. I have a little gate in front of the door that keeps them from running outside, but they scare the person who is at the door. They not only bark, but start fighting with one another. Also, everytime they hear a strange noise outside they start barking.

I live in Florida and am plagued with big, black buzzards that land on the roof on occasion. They bark when they hear them land and see them on the neighbor's roof. It might be time to take them to a dog obedience class. Please advise!!

I am so sorry I can't solve your problem but I just had to tell you......thank you so much for the wonderful idea you gave me to put a gate up so they can't get to the door!!! I live on a busy street. My babies are trained not to enter the entranceway without permission but with a gate.....I can breathe. I can open my front door without rushing people to either enter or leave. There's always the one time I fear.....they might see a squirrel outside and make a dash for it. Obedience class was my saving grace!!!!!! It was worth twice what I paid.

I am glad that I was able to help. We still have the box that the gate came in and I will give you the information tomorrow. It is kinda neat because you can put the gate in the doorway without needing any hardware. By the way, thanks for the advice on the obedience class. After the first of the year I will check into it.

For barking, try coins in a can. Fill up an empty soda or coffee can with coins. Everytime they bark, calmly but sternly tell them Quiet and shake the can. Most don't like the noise! You need to be consistent with it. You can also use a squirt bottle but try not to let them see where the squirt is coming from... just a quick squirt will do. Sounds ridiculous but also those dust-off bottles filled with air you buy for the computer, spray that and it makes a funny noise (don't spray it in their face) and they usually don't like that noise either. Associate these things with a word such as Quiet. Give them a treat or praise when they do as asked.

Our large dogs responded to the loud "psssst" sound followed by a firm command. Now if we make the sound, or the command, they listen. I never thought of the can of air, but now that I think of it, it's probably about the same sound.

I have the same exact problem with mine. People coming in the apartment or near the door, strange noise from outside and he's out of control.
I tried the coins in bottle and the water spray and has not has any luck. I really need to get him to a class, hopefully the weather will warm up soon enough so I can take him.
Any other suggestions?

I'm a big Ceasr m. fan and I just saw a show with a little pom who barked for everything!!! The way he stopped him from barking was to "claim" the door! He set a boundary in which if the dog was barking he would correct the dog with sound. TSSST! (even a sten hey will work) no screaming! He just would touch the dog (two fingers) to snap him out of his barking. He didn't hurt the dog, he just made sure to set the boundaries. I tried this with Ares (3 months) and Tank (1 year old boxer) and they both listen!!! The lady on the show had two little poms and one would bark nonly if the other started! Does one of your babies start the others off?(If you only have one I must've misread your post sorry!)

I tried the coins in the can and it worked. It's only been 2 days but I'm going to keep it up. Thanks

Shaking an aluminum can filled with coins really does the trick! Bailey almost never barks anymore, I also only had to use it few times and he lost the bad habit!

I find it to be the simplest but the most effective solution...

Default Barking and Jumping on people

I did try the can before and it did not work. I am going to try again hopful it will work . But another thing my yorkie does is she jump on people and barks like she is on something when they come in the house. I don't know what to do it very hard. If I get her to stop this she will be a great dog. I was told that yorkies are house dogs and they don't need to go on walks is this true can this be apart of the problem? please help me out. Thank you

All dogs need exercise and stimulation for their mind. If you don't walk your dog - then hopefully you will play lots and stimulate your dog in the home. You can play fetch with her in the home. You can try to train her to find treats you hide . To sit and stay on command.

I too am still teaching razzle not to jump up on people. Sometimes these things take a lot longer.

Try with the can - but also a sharp clap of your hands can work. The two keys for any training is consistency, and timeliness. Interrupt her barking just as soon as it starts. Reward her immediately when she stops.

Dogs need to get acclimatized to many different sounds, people, dogs, and other things; otherwise your dog will likely be reactive to many different stimuli.

Good luck with your training and don't give up!
