| Just some training Q's Hi everyone, I'm new to this site and have been reading over some topics and was wondering if you had some answers for me! I have a baby girl who is almost 5 months old and we are constantly working on potty training. I try to take her out about every 2 hours and am using training treats and lots of praise. She has responded pretty well to the training treats and does not "go" in my room too often anymore. The only problem is, I live with 2 roommates and there are 2 other dogs in the house. It seems whenever I let her out of my room to play with the other dogs, she goes in every other part of the house almost as if she is marking her territory. (The other 2 dogs are also girls.) I also take her out before we go to bed, and she still seems to wake up in the middle of the night to go #2 in my room. She is such a sweet dog and I hate to discipline her, but I'm not sure what else to do. Any tips? Am I on the right track? Also, how can I get her to stop eating grass? She has already thrown up once from it and that did not seem to faze her. Thanks everyone |

YT Addict | I am by far no expert but someone had mentioned in another thread where their female was marking on top of male scent was a sign of the dog trying to establish being the 'leader'. Females do mark territory the same as males do. I don't know anything about how to change her potty time around if it's possible, but if she has to get up in the middle of the night and go, maybe you can try waking up at that time to take her outside so that she can learn that you poopie outside and not inside? Some dogs just have that where they have to go potty at night.

| Thanks for that. I bought potty pads so I wouldn't have to take her out in the middle of the night just because I live in an apartment in Chicago and don't exactly feel safe doing that, but she doesn't seem to grasp the concept of those. I have even cleaned up some of her pee with the pads so she could smell her scent on them |

However, once he was out of the bathroom in the evenings once we came home, he never went back to them to use them. We were told that he might've been confusing our carpet for the pee pad (both being soft). So we stopped with the pads, sucked it up and have trained him to go outside. And now...if we are going to be gone for long periods of time, we leave him in the bathroom still but we don't leave a pee pad for him. If he really really HAS to go, he jumps into the bathtub, does his business and hops right back out. LOL!! It really is hilarious. Most of the time, though, even when he's in the bathroom and can go if he has to, he doesn't. He has really learned to hold it. He's wonderful Last edited by GrayC25; 10-30-2009 at 08:13 AM. | |
