| I need help training Okay so now its time to start training.... Roxy goes on the pad perfectly. She pee's and poo's on it with hardly any problems I mean granted she sometimes goes on the edges and SOMETIMES gets on the floor but other then that she is good.. BUT the pads are getting costly. I don't want my apt since its so small to smell like a dog all the time. I want to start training her to go outside.. When we are outside and she is playing she goes pee sometimes poo but not all the time. What are some tricks.. I have her in a metal crate during the day. I start work at 7am so she is left in crate small enough where she can lay and turn around, I get home at about 12:15 to let her out but sometimes she goes inside crate is that normal. She sleeps in this crate so I find it odd.... When I leave to return to work she goes back inside crate with no problems and I return at 4:15 to let her out again. Once she goes should I be putting her back in again. This is all on the pad by the way I want to start this outside. Sometimes when we go outside on the leash she gets distracted. We don't go outside allot but we do she gets distracted with the birds and leafs. How exactly should I do her outside potty training.

| You could try putting a potty pad outside where you want her to potty? after she gets used to using it outside, maybe she'll go on the grass or whatever. |

| that is alot of time for a little puppy to stay in a crate, have you considered putting her in the kitchen with a pee pad or using an xpen?? I would suggest using an xpen or a gate and giving her a little more room , that way she would not potty in her crate.. gate her in the kitchen or another area... I used a washing machine pan, available at homedepot it has a 2 inch lip on it and I put the pee pads in there... I cut a little entry way in it... she is probally peeing in the crate because she cant hold it that long. If you confine her to a small area you can leave food, bed toys and her crate also put a pee pad in there that way she can use it while you are at work and then take her out when you get home... its going to be a bit confusing for her to go inside while you are at work and outside when you are home.. I think it might be difficult to train her outside since you are gone most of the day, my Laci is potty trained outside but I can tell you I took her outside every 1-2 hours praised and treated.. it was alot of work but like I said It was every two hours at least to go outside.. since you work all day it might be better to teach her to go on the potty pad till she gets a little older and can hold her bladder for longer periods of time.. Laci is now 6 months and she still goes out every 2-3 hours...

| She is 7 months old... I have done the xpen and it didn't work out because she would pee everywhere and poo everywhere and eat it and play with it so I started the crate. I know she can hold it because she holds it all night and sometimes past that on weekends... I've been lucky this week she hasnt gone in crate.. Isn't it 1 hour for every month they are.. She is only in crate for 4 1/2 hour to 5 hours max at a time.
