| Shoe chewing terror I'm growing quite frustrated with my 1.5 year old. She's developed a new habit of chewing up my work shoes a pair a day while I'm out or at work. How can I correct this? It's driving me insane and making me very sad with her

| Well, first I'll state the obvious...put the shoes where she can't get at them. Or, possibly a better solution would be to confine her to a small area when you aren't home and provide alternative safe things to chew on. I feel for you. Ginger is a paper hound. People tell me to keep it out of reach. Ack! Do you have any idea how much paper is in your home on a daily basis? We've gotten really good at keeping it away from her, but have never been successful in training her not to eat it. (and here I am trying to give you advice). We have gotten her to quit eating chords, wooden chairs, etc., just by providing alternative (and more exciting) chew toys, using bitter apple (someone rec. deoderant earlier today and that seems brilliant) and being consistent. Good luck! I would think with shoes, a combination of the above would work. Fortunately, there are a finite # of shoes in your home.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I got some Bitter Yuck before we ever brought her home. At the first sign of chewing on things I sprayed with it. Surprisingly I've had to spray very little of it on anything. We have been good at sidetracking her with toys which seems to be doing the trick with her. I even sprayed a couple pair of shoes that I use a lot & are often by the door. She's made a few attempts at chewing them, but stops. Now when I'm busy & she feels a need to be next to me, I find her laying on top of my shoes sleeping. I mean, really, she has lots of comfy places to sleep, but she likes sleeping on my shoes. : ) But really the best thing is to keep things like that put away where she can't get them.

| If it's just your shoes that are getting chewed I would just put them all in a closet and shut the door. They have your scent on them maybe that is why she chews them when you are away.

YT Addict | I'm hoping that you get some good advice. I actually have the same problem. Harley has chewed up 2 pair of my good shoes within the last few weeks. The problem is...the shoes were put up but he found them. He got out of his kennel while I was gone and opened my bedroom door and chewed up a pair. My bedroom door is double doors but he knows how to jump on them and get them to pop open. The 2nd pair were packed in an overnight bag that he went through. I guess it was my fault that the bag was not zipped all the way :>) |

| Ummm ..... A shoe rack? Because you ain't going to stop a yorkie from chewing up a pair of righteously smelly chew toys any other way
