| Use dog litter box? Hello! I'm sme168, and I'm new to the board. My hubby and I just purchased a two-year-old male Yorkie yesterday, and we are wondering how to handle house training. Franklin has been trained from his previous owner to go on pee pads, and we are unsure if we should continue with this method, or to use the dog litter box. Has anyone used it? Does it help eliminate urine odor? The concept seems easy enough. Thanks for any information/advice you can provide me. |

| First, wanted to say Hello and Welcome to YorkieTalk. I tried the dog litter box with Piccolo, when she was little. Not very successful here. We finally just gave the supplies to someone else. Since you already have a housetrained Yorkie with the pads, maybe it would be best to stick to this method, then slowly introduce the litter box, to see if it works.

| Hi, welcome and congratulations on getting your yorkie pup. I adopted Molly when she was 2 and havent regretted a single moment. If you want to switch to a litter tray, maybe you could put the wee pad into the tray to start with. I did that with my old dog, and when she got used to that, slowly switched to litter. |

| as others have said place the pee pad on top of the box then slowly cut it down in size so he eventually just goes in the box |

| We litter trained our male and he took to it very well, I do however keep a washable pee pad under it since sometimes the leg lift causes him to pee over the edge. Our female is very tiny and does not like the litter box as well so she pees on a pee pad but poops in the litter box. I have to say I hate the pee pads!! The litter box deals with the smell much better. I would like her to consistantly use the litter box but until that happens I will deal with the pee pads instead of dealing with her peeing on the floor next to the litter box.
