| ![]() i have a 7 year old yorkie who is potty trained. but when we go to bed at night or leave he pees in the floor (not in one spot all over). also, he will pee and poo in his crate. we had him netured several years ago. that did not help!. i'm home with him all day and he rarely wants to go out till my husband or son come home so i know he can hold it. I'm at my wits end with him and don't know what to do. he knows he is doing it and its wrong because he goes and hides when i fond it. please someone help>? ![]() ![]() Last edited by yorkietrouble; 02-13-2009 at 03:06 PM. |

| ![]() Bumping. Has he had a physical lately? I feel so bad for your baby, especially since he seems to know that he has done something to upset you. Yorkies are very intuitive. Are you cleaning your floor with an enzyme cleaner? He will continue to go back to the spots if you don't. There are also belly bands if all else fails. Sorry you are going through this after 7 yrs.

Thor's Human Donating Member | ![]() Can you give us more detail? You say he is potty trained, but then you describe non-training behavior. It's unusual for a dog to mess inside his crate unless he was trained out of this instinct early. Was he potty trained at one point and now he isn't? |

Thor's Human Donating Member | ![]() Also, this is a fine distinction, but I was just reading about it and thought it was interesting: dogs figure out pretty quickly that people get mad when they find pee/poo on the floor, but they don't necessarily associate that with the fact that they are the ones doing the peeing and pooing. Basically, I just read about a woman whose dog seemed guilty because she would hide every time she messed on the floor. Then another dog visited them, and the woman saw the OTHER dog mess on the floor. When her own dog discovered the situation, she ran and hid as usual. This dog knew that mess on the floor = yelling human, and she didn't consider whether it was her own or someone else's. She hid because she felt afraid, not guilty. |

| ![]() i got reeces when he was a couple months old. i potty trained him without using a crate. when we would go to bed or leave he started using the bathroom in the floor. and these are the only two times he does this. i finally started putting him in a crate. and he started doing it there to. i have taken him to vet only to find there is nothing wrong with him. he is a small dog only weighs 6lbs. i thought meybe because hew is so small he coluldnt hold it. i'm home with him all day. he is free to go outside whenever he wants but he doesnt want to. (i do take him out for walks when this happens) and he will go to the bathroom. the only thing that really got me is we went to bed one night, (reeces normally sleeps with me or my son) reeces got out of the bed and left the bedroom. i went out behind him only to find him peeing on something in the living room floor. we don't have any other dogs in the house and never have. i had to replace our entertainment center because he ruint the wood on it. we put another one without wood and i caught him peeing on it the other day. ive cleaned it and everything. i just don't know whats going on with him. |

Thor's Human Donating Member | ![]() So just to be clear, was there ever a time when he wasn't going indoors? If not, then he was probably never trained and has just expanded his area. How big is his crate? It should only be big enough for him to turn around in. If he can relieve himself in one corner and sleep in the other, it's too big. |

| ![]() no he hasnt been doing this the whole time. he is in a small crate. not a whole lot of room for him to move. i often wondered how he does do his business in there. ive always been told that dogs wont go where they sleep but reeces has no shame. |

Thor's Human Donating Member | ![]() Hm, that's tough. To be honest, I'm not sure what to do when you can't count on the crate. It might help to completely clean the crate and sleeping material with a pet stain remover. If you take him out right before you go to bed and right after, will he hold it through the night? If he sleeps on your bed, will he hold it? Basically, I would recommend going all the way back to the beginning. Get him an xpen and cover the entire thing with pee pads. Take him out every few hours. Gradually remove the pee pads until there is one or zero, depending on whether you want him completely outside trained. Praise him like crazy when he goes in the right place and do your level best to make sure he never has the opportunity to go in the wrong place. |

| ![]() reeces will get out of our bed and go to the living room or where ever he chooses and pee. we let him out right before bed and he pees several times. but still does it in the house to. we have stayed the night at my in laws and he DOESN'T do this. i went tonight actually and bought him a new crate. let me tell ya this dog is really smart. ive used the puppy pads on spots i found he was going. one time reeces moved the puppy pad, peeed, and moved the puppy pad back. sounds crazy and not likely but when i got the puppy pad up there was his little surprise. when he uses in his crate he will lay in it. ive NEVER seen a dog like this one. Thor's Human Donating Member | ![]() Wow, that is one sneaky dog! A sneaky dog who doesn't like pee pads! I'm just spit balling here, hopefully someone who has had more experience with this kind of determination can post too. Here are some ideas: - Commit to three weeks where you and your husband will alternate getting up in the middle of the night and taking him out. - Some people train their dogs by attaching themselves to their dog. Maybe tie his leash to your headboard or your wrist at night so that he can't get off the bed. - Buy as many pee pad holders as necessary to prevent him from moving them. - If he does pee somewhere, you are cleaning it with an enzyme cleaner, right? This is a must. You can also try putting his food and water dishes where he went (after cleaning it of course). I think the big question is, what's changed that's affected his behavior so dramatically? Did you get a new pet? Did your neighbors get a pet? Did you move?....? |
