Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() I'm just worried because it's been really cold here, and as we know, the little ones get quite cold going outside. It's still California, so it's not super cold, but you definitely need a jacket when you go out. When I take Lola outside, I would love for her to wear her jacket, and when it's raining, to wear her rain jacket. When she was a puppy, she was fine with it, but she doesn't wear clothes very often, and when I put a jacket on her, she just freezes up and doesn't move. NO MATTER WHAT...I've tried enticing her with treats, and everything, but I get nothin'. How can you get the little one's comfortable with wearing a jacket? Are some just never comfortable with it? Thanks for everyone's help! Sorry, I post a lot of questions on this site....I just always want to make sure that I'm doing the right thing, and being the best mother I can be!! Thanks so much for putting up with all of it!!! |

| ![]() I think its all a matter of what they get used to. My girls have worn clothes from day one and tolerate them just fine. They wear pj's/nighties to bed. They wear coats/sweaters/jogging suits when going out for a walk if it is cold or rainy. They don't wear clothes in the house (other than bed time) unless the power goes out and it gets really cold. Maybe if you gradually reintroduce clothing your pup will adjust. Start with something light like a t-shirt and work up. I also find they are more comfortable having the harness on first, then the clothes on top so the clothes don't get bunched up under the harness. For this you will need a button hole to attach the leash to the d-ring on the harness. Good luck!

| ![]() Maybe she could start by wearing a soft t-shirt. I tell mine "let's get dressed" then I put their shirt on them and give them a treat. Now when I say it, they poke their heads in the shirt and wait for the treat ![]() ![]()

| ![]() Bailey only wears coats outside. Yeah, she froze at first - but she soon got used to it. Since she loves it outside - she quicky got over it - or maybe she quicky tolerated it?? Good Luck!

| ![]() charlie hates wearing clothes. He loves to chew them up..so when he wears them he need to be supervise. I let him sleep in his shirt once and the next morning..the neck was all torn up and the shirt was half way down his body. I don't know how he managed to get it half way down his body b/c the shirt is a perfect fit shirt..a little on the tight side.. |

| ![]() Bear wears clothes about 50% of the time but you can tell when he doesn't want to. He trys really hard to make them difficult to put on and once he's wearing them he gets all quiet and emotional. His parka was the hardest piece of clothing for him to get used to because it's a bit more structured than a t-shirt or sweater but the more we had him wear it the more he got use to it. He still puts up a fight every once in a while but he's beginning to learn that his parka means he's going outside. Good luck! |

| ![]() I put a shirt on Teddi the first time it got chilly outside. He was curious at first but then he ignored it soon after. Now he wears a top everyday since it's been cold out and we don't really turn up the heat in the house that much (saving some money :P). Nothing bothers him (e.g. shirt, sweater, jacket) except socks. He kept poking at them constantly until they popped out of his feet one by one. Good thing he doesn't really need it because it hardly snows over here.

| ![]() Lilly usually ALWAYS wears clothes. It's usually just a tee or a coat if we go outside. At night time she always has PJs on! She wears her PJs the most out of all her clothes.

| ![]() Harley doesn't mind shirts that are sleeveless. He doesn't like the feel of tight sleeves or his movement being restricted. He also doesn't like them too snug. He has a sleeveless hoodie from Wal-Mart that he loves.

| ![]() Jackson never liked clothes. I put him a jacket once and he like froze like he didn't know what to do or how to walk, LOL. I tried one more time and decided to give up. The cold weather doesn't bother him at ALL. And we're in Maryland. Even in the snow, he could've cared less.

But then a friend stopped by and mentioned that it might not be safe for little puppies (she's currently 3.5 months/2.6 lbs) to wear clothes because they get into all sorts of situations and could get choked somehow. Is this a legitimate concern? Although we do enjoy her wearing clothes, the main purpose was to keep her warm all day long...but if it's at the expense of her being safe, then we'd probably forego the clothes and go on shorter walks in the winter and move our thermostat up a degree or 2 (currently set at 69). | |
