| ![]() Jackson is 8wks old and im crate training him. I've only had him 3 days now and he started out really well the first 2 days training but has had some set backs. Im trying to take him out as much as possible and im wondering if its too confusing to use puppy pads along with the crate? |

| ![]() Well for one thing he is really young and your going to have to be patient. Also for now only train him one way to use the pads or to go outside both is confusing. Later on after he has on way down you can try to train the other also. Good luck

You cannot even begin to crate train at this age and I discourage that method with yorkies anyway. At his age, it is like trying to toilet train a 2 month old human baby. Stick with the pee pads. | |

| ![]() aw, i have a jackson too! i got jackson at 9 weeks and began crate training him and he did absolutely fine. he'd bark for a while though but he'd eventually quiet down. i see nothing wrong with crate training at 8 weeks. and yes, either train one way or the other, don't try to teach him both. he'll be really confused, especially so young. consistency and schedule is the key! keep him on the same schedule every day. let him out every hour, or half hour. you'll learn when he has to go potty. he's very young and can't hold it long so be sure to take him out often. leave no room for mistakes and when you can't watch him 24/7 keep him locked in a crate or a pen. you can expect many set backs. you've only had him for 3 days.

| ![]() welcome. How long are you keeping him confined at a time? At his age, about 2 hours is the longest he should be crated. I really am not a crate person, I prefer the xpens. If you're not taking him outside to potty and using pee pads, then that won't confuse him, when you take him out, get him to the pee pad and don't let him off until he potties. If he pees on the floor, you can always wipe it up with a pp towel, then put the pee on his pad, that way he can smell the scent. My first yorkie was almost 7 weeks, I used the xpen for her, she had the pee pad down in about 2-3 weeks. good luck |

| ![]() Welcome to YT! I got my pup at 6 weeks. I tried the x-pen thing and she hated it that first week. I then resorted to leaving her in the bathroom with her pee pad, dog bed, food & water. She did okay with that...only there was pee everywhere ![]() This is Day 3 of her in the x-pen in the kitchen and I hope she's doing okay. I put her crate inside and hooked the door to the pen so she could go in and nap when she wanted. She peed on the pad like she was supposed to and hadn't figured out how to jump out yet so I guess all is good. |
