| ![]() just curious your opinions for yorkies! jackson is about 12 weeks old and he's by no means bad, he's a very well behaved boy, still working on the potty training obviously but he's young and doing pretty good. i'd really like to make him the best dog as he can get, mostly with just basic things. do you recommend obidence classes, petsmart training or a trainer coming to your house? or just working with him yourself? i'm definitely no professional at this stuff... but i just want to know if it's worth it to pay that money for it and if they remember it, etc. things such as walking on a leash properly, lay down, stay, come, not begging, etc. he knows sit! lol!

| ![]() I am really glad I took mine to obedience training classes. Part of the training was teaching them how to pay attention to you and obey you when there are other dogs around, and the socialization was great for them. Our community center hired a trainer for residents here but she was a trainer from Petsmart. It wouldn't hurt to ask the trainer at Petsmart if they would try to get a class together just for small dogs.

| ![]() I took Chase to a puppy kindergarten class at Petco. Despite some stories to the contrary, we lucked out with a great trainer/teacher. I think it's good for socialization and he learned most of the basic commands there. The teacher also taught him some special tricks like roll over, etc. He was the smallest in the class and there was some "bullying" by the bigger puppies, but it was so worth it. I highly recommend puppy kindergarten classes!

| ![]() I think what you get out of a class and what they remember just depends on how much work you put into it. If you practice the obedience/tricks with your dog every day, of course they'll remember it. Does that make sense? I've had a lot of people tell me they took their dogs to a class but they didn't practice so the dogs don't follow commands anymore.

| ![]() We got or Yorkie on October 25th and it was my 1st dog ever. My husband works shift work and I had a hard time dealing with "Ami" when he worked nights (I would be in tears actually afraid of the dog). We hired a trainer who comes once a week and it has done a worlkd of good for myself and the dog. Ami is 4 months old and is not perfect but we have a come a long ways! |
