| Tricks What are some tricks you've taught your Yorkie, how and at what age did you start and how long did it take you? Let share!! (I know some amazing posters here taught their dogs to shake hands, say hello with their paws ... etc) |

| Nikko, 4 months old and we've had him for one month, is pretty good at sit, and sit and stay (for up to about 5 seconds). 4/5 times, probably, but always needing the treat as part of the equation. The only trick he's totally reliable at is "high five" which is him going up on his hind legs and tapping both his front paws on our hand which is up in a high five position. Not much yet, I know, but we're still working. :-) I look forward to hearing what's in other yorkies' bags of tricks! And even more at how old they were when they learned them - great question mina0710! Thanks! Lauren & Nikko |

| Charlie is 4 months too but I just got him 2 weeks ago. He can sit (like you - has to have a treat). How did you teach your baby to stay? |

Yorkie Yakker | My pup is six months old. He knows how to sit, and go down. It took him about a day to learn. That's about it. I'm still trying to teach him other tricks, but am not sure how to go about it.

| Alfie is almost 8 months old and he can sit, lay down, shake, play dead and roll over. It's so much fun teaching him tricks! |

| Mina0710, I don't know if this is the best way to go about it, but I have him do sit while I'm sitting down next to him, legs crossed. Then I don't give him the treat yet - I just keep calmly repeating sit several times while I calmly place the treat up on my knee. Then I put one finger up (like "just wait one minute"), and instead of the last "sit" I say "stay." Then a beat or so after that I excitedly say "OK! Good job!" and he runs over to me knee to grab the treat. Lauren & Nikko Last edited by lemonlauren; 12-30-2008 at 12:37 AM. |

| I've been working with Maximus on sit and lay. He does pretty well for the most part, unless there is a lot of commotion going on around him. I'm working on head down (where he is in laying position and resting chin on floor). He usually only lays his chin down for a split second, but I'm working on him doing it longer. Great post. I would love to hear the techniques others use to teach their dogs their tricks like the sit and stay Lauren posted. Or if you can recommend a good book. We reward with Yorkie Yummies.

| My guys are 2 and 3 yr old rescues. Will any/all of these techniques work for them? We're doing good on sit, stay and back (at the front door when going out for a walk so I can go out first). Working on catch, drop and let go. Zeke is the quicker study than Zack. |
