Yorkie baby won't pee outside! I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this with their baby... My 7 month old yorkie, Moose, has been trained on potty pads since weve had him; he does very well with the potty pads while inside our apartment. The However, Moose refuses to pee/poop outside since he is used to peeing on potty pads inside! This isn't particularly a problem until we go on a trip and Moose is in the car for a long time...for example, when I stop to let him stretch his legs, go for a walk, etc., he will NOT pee/poop outside! He will hold it for hours and hours until he gets back to his potty pad! His potty pads are inside a "pen" so he has learned to associate peeing with the pad AND pen. He won't pee on the potty pad unless it is inside the pen. So...if Moose is anywhere where I can't assemble and set up his pen and pad, he won't pee, holds it for hours, and is miserable! I really want to help Moose for both our sakes! I've tried everything I could think of to teach him he can pee on the pad and pee outside too, but nothing has worked so far. I live on the 3rd floor of an apartment so gradually moving his pad and pen outside to teach him isn't really an option. Any suggestions? Thanks everyone!

i would start with him in the pen and having a pad and when he is going to go potty say go potty and when he does it praise him and get him use to pottying on command and when you are ouside say it and see what happens maybe he will begin to associate go potty with it rather than a pad and a pen

Mine are all pee pad trained, but, when they go outside to play, they will potty out there. But, we took an 850 mile trip last Christmas with 4 pee pad trained dogs, we have a van, so, we took the back seats out, put their beds back their, the pee pads, water and food, and drove straight through. They hardly even peed at all on the trip up there or back. Think there were 2 pee spots the whole trip

| Try putting a pee pad that's been used by him out when you put him down outside Let him smell it and associate the outside with the pee pad Trips are tricky ... because you have the added strangeness of everything and they get easily distracted .... Great Smells and New People !

Also, try taking him on more walks...like right after he's eaten. The reason is because its suppose to be natural for them to relieve themselves out doors. So, a full tummy and a nice long walk..might just make him have to...And of coarse you should praise him for doing so...Not an expert by far - but hope this helps

Pee pads !!!!!! Yeeekkkk When I got Roxy she was 6 mts. and trained on the pad thing. I crate trained all my dogs and she was no different. I don't personally like the thought of the dog going in the house, you have to just take the time to wait it out-out side. She is 7 mts. now and goes out side to do any bussiness. There were times and still are that it's raining, snowing, blowing, I'm freezing, she's wining, but I try to be paitent and just keep saying go potty. If you are rushing they just won't go!....but then again we all like our quiet time don't we...lol...

Can you set up the pen in your yard with a pad one day? Then after he pees outside in the pen and on the pad, take away the pen and leave the pad and see if he does it again?

yorkie does not pee outside I have the same problem with my yorkie. H e is seven months old, too. The breeder trained him on potty pads . When I travel I use his potty pads and he does his bussiness , but not when I take him to the park or to the backyard. Thanks to all yorkie talkers for the advice they had given you. I am trying hard to solve this problem ,too. Good luck.

Does your pup go outside often enough where he's comfortable to go potty? Cause my little guy is also 7 months old and when i first got him, i started off paper training him and he was doing really good for a few months. so i figured i'd start training him to pee outdoors and at first he didnt like going outside but i took his mat and left it out there with him and i think he got use to it because a few days later i left him outside longer then i usually did and he had his crys and barking [althought it hurts me to hear him cry, i didnt want to spoil him too much] but he did his business shortly after that and i sort of just praised him with his favorite treat and now all he does is run to the door when he needs to do his business! GOOD LUCK with your little guy! Last edited by LiTTLE-LEO; 12-14-2008 at 09:38 PM.

I have the EXACT same problem with my 5 mos. old Yorkie...Going to move her pen outside today w/a pad & see what happens. What is difficult is, I am in CO so it is cold & possibly snowy out there. Have you had any success yet?
