You mean to say you haven't grown eyes in the back of your head Yet? like the rest of us.

Sorry love I really do sympathise. Move your grandparents things to another out of bounds room if you can. Or limit where he can go.

Naughty Chewy you have to behave for your mummy you know.

Hope things get better.

Put him in an indoor PEN! I wish I thought of this when my boys were going through the teething stage. A pen with 4 sides will keep him from chewing anything (including WALLS - YES they do do this!!!) put his food, water, bed, toys, etc.. in the pen with him. This is the safest way to keep him contained and your furniture, walls, cabinets, baseboards intact while you are out and hes going through this stage.

Good Luck!!!

Love Just say NO!

Just say NO.....most of us let our fur Baby's get away with murder b/c they're too cute to say NO to, don't worry you won't hurt their feelings!
Yorkie's just like any other Dogs need to be Trained and want to be told what & when to do it! Do you walk him? If you you walk them at least twice a day and wear him out he has less energy to chew things and you need to teach him what he can and cannot chew, after all you are assuming that he know's
the difference when he has to be taught what is acceptable behaviour.
Do not leave him un-attended until he is thoroughly "Trained" so you can watch him so you don't give him the opportunity and definetly move the Table to a safe place until he's passed the Teething stage!

Another strategy that may work is placing several pennies in an empty aluminum can and taping the top closed.....when the pup gets close to the table that he is chewing on, you give the can a firm shake and they begin to relate the action with the loud scary noise and they stop. It may work.[/QUOTE]

I tried this and it really works. The water bottle spraying never worked for me because Chico LOVES water! He thought it was a fun game! The pennies in the water bottle scares him for some reason and all I do is have to reach for it and he stops barking and runs!

I agree with the deodorant stick... Layla also loved the bitter apple! I put some deodorant around the bottom of my wooden desk that she constantly chewed on... she put her teeth on it and backed up and kept licking her lips to get the taste off her tongue! She stopped chewing on furniture, and I stopped using the deodorant after she got out of her teething stage.

I remember reading a thread sometime ago where the owner actually
stated she said No so many times her dog thought that was his name.
I laughed at that one for a couple of days.
Instead of saying NO try making a fast sound. Like ut, ut.
Say it really loud and sharp. Use the spray bottle at the sametime if
necessary. That's a bummer for sure. Antique furniture can't be replaced.
I would lock him in the kitchen when you return to work or put him in
an x-pen or something like that.
Good luck, it does get better, eventually.

Muffin chewed a hole in my carpet. Kacee chewed a hole in my wall and then started on the leg of one of my couches. I had to cut a big plastic storage bowl down the side and slip it around the leg until she outgrew the chewies!

Oh thank god I am not the only one with Yorkies that are part beaver. These boys of mine have chewed on every single piece of wood furniture in our bedroom. I have to keep them in the bedroom while we are at work because my MIL lives with us and has senile dementia. She has let the dogs out a few times when I have been home because she forgets which door is to the backyard. Anyway for their safety they stay up there. So needless to say from the time they started teething until the last remaining tooth was gone I have had to spray bitter apple on everything. But I am going to give the deodorant thing a try with Miss Friday because the bitter apple is nothing to her.

Yorkies are all about eating wood products! Wood, paper, socks and a plastic brush are Chewie's favorite things The teeth marks aren't bad....yet....the wood stain is a dark brown but the real wood color is much lighter so the marks are easy to see. I guess the area can be lightly sanded and re-stained some day... Puppy kindergarten or some sort of training classes will be coming up soon once I get settled back into work and $$$ starts coming in again. Chewie is just super hard-headed and I wasn't blessed with the best patience level and I think it will take someone who really knows what they're doing to get him acting better. Also, maybe I should re-name him to something like...Notachewer...LOL, Just kidding

My first thought was to change Chewie's name. How about Nochewie? My little girl does the same thing, antiques, carpeting, baseboards etc. I think I need to read this entire post and find a remedy for the chewies!!!
