He's eating my freakin' wood furniture now!!! My hubby and I have done the best job we possibly could in regards to keeping stuff out of 6mo. old Chewie's reach. He has plenty of toys and things to chew on that are his. NOW...I just discovered he has been gnawing on my very expensive wooden end tables that belonged to my grandparents before they died! It's not like he's chewing the legs..he's actually standing up and chewing around the top edge of the table portion where you sit things! I think I'm about to flip out completely now! I sprayed bitter stuff on the wood itself, risking ruining the wood and he sits there and licks it off! I'm about to go back to work next week and I absolutely can't trust Chewie not to completely shred the house to bits while we're gone. I've been home for the past 3mo. straight and I could keep an eye on him all day long... He sits in the middle of the room and digs and chews on the carpet in just random spots. We don't know what to do now... :( |
Are you catching him while he is doing it and stop him? Give him a toy and get his mind off the table. I can't believe he is standing up and chewing on the edge. That little stinker. Are you walking him and wearing him out that is a great way to get him too tired to do things like that. I hope this helps or someone else has better suggestions. I had a wicker table that one of mine chewed. But we got them stopped by catching them and telling them NO- then taking them to do something else. It wasn't too long and it stopped however my wicker end table was already ruined. Good Luck. |
Oh gosh, that is so frustrating and such a bummer. Sorry that this is happening but you may have to leave him in an xpen or confine him to one room that is puppy proofed when you aren't at home. He will eventually grow out of this but in the meantime I know it is hard to deal with him damaging your priceless belongings. Good luck!:) The little guy is living up to his name, isn't he? |
Also you might try a spray bottle with water. Sit it close by you and when he goes toward the table say "NO" and spray him. Its amazing how soon they realize they can't do that. And they don't like the spray of water on them. We do that for barking and all you have to do is tell them and pick up the bottle at times. They never have to be sprayed anymore. actually i noticed all my wood furniture is chewed up too. when i replace stuff it is yorkieproof like wrought iron chewers and diggers they will eat your carpet better get some dingo bones fast:animal36 mine have brought large branches into the house it was bark city...wooden chunks everywhere good luck :) |
Water bottle idea is the only thing we havent tried! I'll be making one up right now and we'll see how that works. The word NO means nothing to this dog. So maybe NO and spritz of water will learn him...LOL! |

What a turd! I would say that if you can't get him to stop by the time you have to leave during the day, then put him in a crate or x pen that way he wont have anything but his chew toys. Lucie is a chewer too, she has even chewed on the screen parts of her x pen (hasn't made a hole in it though) and whenever I leave I put her in it so she can't get into trouble. |

when i first joined YT i was given some great advice by another member A solid deodorant stick! It was the best trick ever! I rubbed that stuff on all cabinet corners, table legs, leather recliner corners...It worked sooo well!! Try it out and see how he likes that! |

my youngest daughter has outgrown her play pen, and I hate leaving my doggies in their kennels, but, I don't want them to run free...sooo I decided to use her play pen as a doggie safe area....mine aren't jumpers or escape artists though, but they are happy in it when I can't watch them. |
Sorry The only thing I could say is change his name, LOL I use to have a dog we called her bandit because she had black around her eyes. She got older she started taking stuff in the neighborhood. Her name did fit her. |
