| ![]() I got Dusty when He was 8 months old. He had started lifting his leg to mark outside and they all thought it was the cutest thing. so he marks everything in and outside the house now. I called the vet as soon as I got him and they said it was too late. Now veryone is telling me that I should go ahead and do it.

| ![]() Harley was a little over 2 when I got him. He had been used for breeding and was a really bad marker. In fact he had not been in my living room for over 20 secs. and he lifted his leg on me, my son, and my TV!!! I used belly bands because I did not want him to have surgery till he had gotten used to his new home and family and it seemed like he was marking every 10 mins! He marked for a couple of months after surgery, and now he is the best of all my dogs. I keep a pad tucked away in the corner and he even squats when he uses is. It may not help with all males, but it sure did with ours. Kathy-Ut |

| ![]() My moms dog, who she got from me, is 8 year old and has never been neutered and he does not mark in the house. She has had him since he was about 14 weeks old. But, he is the only dog in the house so he has no competition.

| ![]() Neutering will help the marking, but at his age, it won't completely stop it. My Chi was neutered at six months and he never learned to mark and never marked. My Bichon learned to mark before he was neutered at a year old (he didn't live with me at that time) and he still will mark on occasion. He used to wear belly bands all the time and he didn't like being wet, so I think it helped him learn not to mark. I watched him and changed his belly band when he got it wet, but he would be wet for a few minutes sometimes, especially over night. He got to a point where his belly band would be dry most of the time. I'm retired now and home most of the time to keep an eye on him, but I don't leave him loose if I'm gone. Marking is one of the strongest instincts dogs have and once learned, it's almost impossible to unlearn it. |

| ![]() I hate to say this out loud but it has got to the point to where if something dont change I dont think I can put up with this for much longer. I love him to death, he is my heart but, he is driving me crazy. I have been keeping belly bands on him for the last few day's none stop and I am changing them none stop. I hate to make him go through surgery and him be just as bad but I think this is the only option I have left.

| ![]() neutering will likely not stop it. terriers in general are dominant dogs. my yorkie is neutered, and enjoys marking everything (he was neutered by the breeder right before being picked up at 4 months). my guess is, your dog will mark for the rest of his hopefully long life. |
