Neutering will help the marking, but at his age, it won't completely stop it. My Chi was neutered at six months and he never learned to mark and never marked. My Bichon learned to mark before he was neutered at a year old (he didn't live with me at that time) and he still will mark on occasion. He used to wear belly bands all the time and he didn't like being wet, so I think it helped him learn not to mark. I watched him and changed his belly band when he got it wet, but he would be wet for a few minutes sometimes, especially over night. He got to a point where his belly band would be dry most of the time. I'm retired now and home most of the time to keep an eye on him, but I don't leave him loose if I'm gone. Marking is one of the strongest instincts dogs have and once learned, it's almost impossible to unlearn it.
