| how do i get him to let me know he has to go potty? Jaxon is doing a wonderful job of holding it (for the most part) until we get home from work. He occasionally pees in his crate but he rarely ever poops in his crate while we are gone. So when we get home, we take him out and he will do his business and he hangs out with us for a while. Well, by the time its bedtime, we seem to find little "presents" areound the house, whether it be a pee spot or poop. How can I teach him to let me know when he needs to go outside? Also, should we keep him in the crate even once we are home in order to ensure that he doesnt leave "presents" while we are looking the other way? |

| I don't know how old Jaxon is, but if still a puppy, I wouldn't let him out of your sight while you are potty training. As for the signals, if you are taking him out on a regular basis, try using potty bells on or by the door you intend to take him out of. Each time you take him out, ring the bell and use a cue word, like "potty". Then gradually entice him to paw them or nose them. These work great, my little girl uses them and she also uses them to let me know my other dogs are waiting by the door to go out (they are older and were never trained to the bells) If you type in potty bells in the search bar, you'll come up with quite a few posts about them.

| You can totally teach him to ring a bell, but at 14 weeks he just can't hold it unless he *has* to in a crate. You need to keep him on a leash or don't take your eyes off of him when you are home. Try setting a timer for every 30 minutes to take him out. At 14 weeks he really does need to go out that often. Slowly you can try extending the time between potty breaks. At this age his body isn't giving him any warning that he needs to go -definitely not enough for him to let you know and wait for you to let him out. It's a better idea just to keep him empty I have tellbells on my website if you're interested. Others on here make hanging bells. It's great to teach him now, but don't expect much for another month or two!

| Tell Bells Hi, I read your post about tell bells. Do they have an adhesive or non slip backing on them so they do not get pushed around? Thank you! Leslie |

| No, but I wish they did! I just set mine on the rug by the door. Sometimes they flip it over and when I let them out I just flip it back. We had problems with the hanging bells because Loki was scratching up the door and Sammy was afraid of them, so we have been happy with the tell bell. I have suggested this to the company many times so I hope they come out with a new deluxe version or something.

| Mine has done perfectly well with the hanging bells. I'm so grateful for those things! She makes them ring with her nose, which is the correct way to teach them, but I understand how difficult it can be to get them to use their noses instead of their paws! I could literally get down on my knees and thank heaven for them everyday. She hasn't had an accident, except right after she was spayed at around 6 months of age. She will not go in the house. I have them hanging on the door going to the patio and the door going into the attached garage. The garage is where we have piddle pads and she goes in there at night and in bad weather.
