I don't know how old Jaxon is, but if still a puppy, I wouldn't let him out of your sight while you are potty training. As for the signals, if you are taking him out on a regular basis, try using potty bells on or by the door you intend to take him out of. Each time you take him out, ring the bell and use a cue word, like "potty". Then gradually entice him to paw them or nose them. These work great, my little girl uses them and she also uses them to let
me know my other dogs are waiting by the door to go out (they are older and were never trained to the bells) If you type in potty bells in the search bar, you'll come up with quite a few posts about them.
