Most important command is to Come. Your dog must learn that when you say come, he comes. This is for his protection. Get a long lead, attach to your dogs harness and attach the other end to you (belt loop whatever) keep attached at all times (except when you leave the house for work, whatever) Make sure that the lead is long enough so that the dog can wander off (I did mine mostly in my apartmetn, about 30 feet long). Call the dog, if he does not come, reel him in. When he comes, he gets a treat and high praise. I did this for a few weeks and my dogs ALWAYS COME WHEN I CALL, NO MATTER WHAT. You need to have at least this command always obeyed. It may save your dogs life someday. Good luck

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | I agree that you have to work hard on teaching the word come...not only inside but everywhere!! We are currently teaching Magic and Sailor to come when called while we are outside...we let them out on a long leash and then have them come when called if they do it right they get a treat if not they don't...Magic has really started catching on to this well but Sailor hasn't decided it is what she wants to do...but we will keep trying until she gets it...

My doesn't listen either. She is getting better in the house, but once outside, she is a differnt dog.. Free and wild!! I have had so many near heart attacks because of her getting loose. We just installed a six foot femce around my yard, (its almost finished) COst a bundle, but at least I'll know she will be safe and can run free (Or at least she will think so!!

i love lucky sooo much but this is my 1st dog and i didnt know exactly what to ask . i bought lucky off puppyfind.com the breeder told me he would be small because his mom is 5 1/2 pounds and daddy 31/2 pounds. she told me puppies take after the dad which would have been great. i was surprised when i took him to the vet right after getting him off the plane and at 8 weeks he was 3 pounds . by the 3rd visit at 14 weeks he was 5.6 pounds. at 16 weeks hes still 5.6 pounds i hope he stays the same height and length and maybe just fill out(good luck on that)....either way i will love him no matter how much he weighs. im no slim goodie myself . but i dont want to be the cause of him being so big either so i cut down on his food and put him on a schedule. i can tell he's still hungry after his meals(not starving) but im hoping he'll get use to it soon and adjust. it's hard to tell if he's really hungry or just greddy. how do u know? any sugg on kepping his weight down?

Don't believe in restricting a puppy's food. If he is still hungry then feed him. Trying to keep him small and lightweight is not a good idea. A hungry dog will develop behavioral issues related to food and will become quite possessive and possibly aggressive. A dog whose hunger is satisfied makes a happy, healthy puppy. If you make food an issue (and IMHO you are) you are asking for problems. Judging by your pups current weight, he should be between 7-9 pounds, not a large dog by any means. Please do yourself and your pup a favor and feed him when he is hungry.

Gucci is very stubborn also. Sometimes she will listen and comes but others she looks at me like she doesnt care. I will try the lead advise. Im even trying the clicker but so far is not working, I guess im doing it wrong. Good luck. Gucci is 1 yr old and she weights 4.6 lbs.
