| Hernias or "fat pockets"?? Hey everyone, when I bought my 10 week old baby I met with my breeder and she told me about a small "bump" on her lower abdomen. I personally looked myself, but saw nothing. My breeder told me that the "bump" would go in and out, sometimes showing and sometimes not. She claimed it to be possibly a hernia or "fat pocket." I was skeptical, but I did go ahead and get her because I am willing to have a hernia removed. I know the breeder, so I do trust her, but she told me she went to her Vet and he said the bump was a "fat pocket" and most likely NOT a health problem. Is this normal? A "fat pocket" on a puppy? I have never heard of a fat pocket, but I could just be uneducated I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or if there is such a thing as a "fat pocket." And if anyone's puppies have had a hernia, how was it taken care of? Was it a difficult procedure? Is it most likely a hernia and NOT a fat pocket? I would appreciate some opinions! Thanks very much in advance!

| Ok Thanks very much.. I have just never heard of a fat pocket, so that's what made me skeptical! Plus my breeder doesn't use MY Vet.. so I was unsure.. You know how it can be! I was afraid she wasn't being honest. Anyone know what causes fat pockets?

| My Mazee had a hernia when I got her. Her vet and my breeders vet both told me that a lot of times hernias will fix themselves on their own, which hers did. But if it didn't it was going to be repaired when she was spayed. I have never heard of a fat pocket on a 10 wk old, but then again I am no expert. I also think that some hernias are not always seen. I don't really believe that hernias are hard to repair, something that can be done the same time they are spayed or neutered-then they only have to be put under one time. hope this helps

| Thanks Thanks very much! This is very reassuring! My breeder did say that if there were a hernia, it could be fixed while shes being spayed. I have never heard of "fat pockets" either but Im no Vet! But whatever the case, I trust MY Vet, and that's who will be spaying her. So if a hernia is there, it wont be there for long!
