| ![]() First I tried using a collar/leash combo to walk him outside but when he gets out, he doesn't move at all. He just stays in one spot, he'll probably stay there for a whole 30 minutes if I don't do anything. When I pulled on the leash a little bit to see if he'd start walking, he'd pull back a little or get dragged. Then I got him a harness and he still does the same thing. He doesn't walk or do anything when I pull on the leash a little. Anyone here have the same problem or have overcome the issue?

| ![]() Have you tried carrying him a short distance away and then putting him down to see if he'll walk back? Just a thought! ![]() |

| ![]() I think you might need to get a friend to help. My boy loves to go after people whether he's on the leash or not. If it's just me and him I can't get him to walk at all, but if I have my husband with us. I will send my husband on out ahead and Logan will go after him and then I walk behind holding the leash. When he does this praise him and give him a treat.

| ![]() All it is, is that he is not use to leashes and collars. Let him wear the harness or collar around the house. If he doesn't move you can lure him to move with treats. After he gets use to the harness/collar then attach the leash and let him drag it around. Do the same as when you have the harness/collar on. After awhile he will get use to wearing it. Just remember to keep an eye on him when he is dragging the leash just in case it get caught on something. Good luck |

| ![]() Try putting the leash and harness on when you are in the house or yard and let him drag it around for a little while. Make sure you supervise though. It will help him to get used to the leash. |

| ![]() My Maltese didn't want to walk on a leash either.. It took having my husband come on walks with us and walk a few feet in front of him. Tuffy would take off to run after him and my husband would give him a treat and that's pretty much how we tought him to walk. Tuffy isn't big on walks so it's still a challenge to get him to move with his harness on. He still refuses to budge when we first get to the park and I have to walk out to the length of the leash before he realizes I'm serious about walking and he'll finally run to catch up with me. I try not to pull him because it just reinforces his already negative outlook on walks. I agree w/ Annadoodle about using a flexi leash, it really helped get Tuffy not hate walks as much.

| ![]() I'm not sure how long you had your dog but mine did the same thing when we first got her. It had nothing to do with the leash/harness but being outside was just new to her. Your dog will come around soon enough.

| ![]() Wow, typerk, I realized that about my dog today. He was just afraid of being outside. He goes running back into the house right when I open the door. However, he came around after being outside for an hour or so.. he starting walking around the grass and then in the backyard, he ran around so fast.. he looked like he was hopping like a little bunny. Didn't know he could run so fast.. I've got to keep an eye on him just in case he decides to run away one day cuz I'm going to have a hard time catching him. Oh yeah, I had him on the harness but I had to pull a bit to get him to move.. but he still resisted a lot... and walked sideways because of the harness moving to his side when being pulled. ![]()

| ![]() I have the same problem with Callie, but for some reason she'll walk on it with my 5 year old. She won't for anyone else, but he's not always around when it's time to go out. I don't know what to do about it....I'm about to the point where I want to give up but I know I can't.
