| Walking Issue Jamie loves to put on his leash and his harness and go play in the yard. So I decided that he was ready to venture on a longer walk. Well he was a mess as soon as his paws hit the pavement (it wasn't too hot as I walked for a minute with my barefeet to check). He was trying to PULL me back into the yard and when that didn't work he just layed down and cowered by the curb. I just don't get it. There were no cars or other people. I can't imagine why he wouldn't walk. Any ideas what to do to get my baby excited to walk around the block?

| Praise the heck out of him. If treat training is your thing go for it, Make sure he knows that he is pleasing you with every step he takes. I had the same problem. I then just kept walking (with leash in hand) and Louis couldn't help but keep up with me. He will catch up soon. Just praise, praise, praise.

| Thanks for responding. Should I have the leash tight or loose? I hate to feel like I'm dragging him...

| Well, what I did was keep it loose. I just left him sitting there and he would feel alone and follow me. When he would just stop i would praise him. Try holding a treat and running with it while holding the leash, make praise sounds and I'm sure he will follow. You might look like a fool. You can also try practicing around the house with the leash. Just make it fun for him. you can try getting a squeaky toy and squeaking it to encourage him to walk/run with you. let me know how it goes. I know they can be stubborn, we just have to out-stubborn them

| I'll probably have to do it outside because he walks right beside me on his leash in the house and in the front yard and EVEN in our driveway. It's just the street that bothers him.

| How weird. then yes, you should distract him ( not too much that it will scare him) with treats, like carrots, or apples or whatever or his favorite toy. Best of luck...
