| i think i waited too long ... Caden will be one on may 7th. he does NOT know sit, but sometimes does it for a treat. he can stay pretty well. he only comes when i have a treat in hand. he walks, dances, and jumps when im holding a treat, but just does it. he doesnt know the name for it, or how to do it on command. is he too old for me to train him to do this? if not, what are some good ways to teach him the basics? he doesnt jump, bite, or bark excessively, so i guess i shouldnt be complaining... but some people on here talk about their yorkies knowing about 20 tricks by 5 months. luckyy thanks everyone =D

| Hehe 1 year old is still very young and very trainable. They can still be trained even when they are 5-6 years old just a little harder but with a little more patience, it can be done. I adopted a Shih Tzu many years ago, he was old when I adopted him probably more than 5 but he can be trained and learned his new name in no time! Mine (my yorkie) only does it when there is a treat or when he feels like it but if I sound firm, he will do it but after that, I will have to praise him and kiss him all over :P The thing with yorkie is, they are so intelligent that they have their own mind and do what they want. Maybe yours do know just don't want to do it when there is no treat Oh...also using exactly the same words for the same command each time helps especially if you have a few family members otherwise they get confused. Mine pretty much only does sit, stay, down, and paw (shaking hands) and that is about it as we got lazy in training him

| I'm sure he can be trained. Don't ask ME how, but I have no doubt that someone here will have some good advice. I had to laugh though, b/c a week or so ago, I thought I'd train Max the "SIT" command, using treats. He picked it up so FAST....but now, he sees the treats, and he sits immediately before I even say it, LOL. I'm not sure exactly where I lost control of the situation , but I think HE's the one who trained ME, hehe. They're very smart!
