| crate training my puppy will be picked up next weekend.I talked to the breeder yesterday and she said she is crate training him this week. How long does it take to train your yorkie and getting him used to the crate?im taking off 4days of work once i get him so i can be with him, take him outside to relieve himself, get him used to that. He will be home alone for 7hrs mon-fr.DO i leave him in his crate or in the playpen? I feel so bad he has to be alone while im at work. how long did it take some of you to ccrate train your dog |

| Bleu Boy Is 6 Months Old And Is In A Crate When We Are Gone He Is Never Left More Than 4 Hours Sometimes 5 Hours At A Time... He Mostly Is With Us. In 6 Months Of His Life He Has Probally Been Left Under 10 Times. He Goes Everywhere With Us Haha Anyways Training Your Baby To The Crate First Of All Take Off The Top Lid. Have Treats And A Blanky And Toy And Get On The Floor With Your Baby And Play With Him Or Her So They Will Feel Comfortable Around That Environment. I Have Seen Many People Just Throw Their Dog In A Crate And The Dog Associates He Is In Trouble Because You Are Leaving Him And He Cries And Acts Out Till You Return And Then Tends To Be Hyper And Fears Going In The Crate .. You Want To Stear Away From This Type Of Schedule And Behavior .... Act As If Your Babies Crate I Call It My Babies House Is Like A Toy Box Full Of Fun And Your Baby Will Start Enjoying It More And Not Being Fearful .. Another Thing Is Put It In The Living Room With You And Leave Door Open And Watch Your Baby He Will Feel Less Caged Up When You Trust Him So When The Time Comes And You Shut The Door They Can Adapt Quicker ....especially When Left Alone What You Will Find The End Result To Be Is It Is Your Babies Domain And When You Least Expect It He Or She Will Go To The Crate By Themself As It Is Their Comfort Zone And They Know They Are Protected.... If Done Right It Will Work Best Of Luck Vicki Feel Free To Pm Sometimes I Dont Make It Back To Sites To Read The Followup!

Senior Yorkie Talker | As said above.. keep in mind they can only hold it for so long as they are puppy's. Right now i have a 3 month old crate trained. It took me about a week and he will now stay quiet in the crate. However he starts to get restless when he has to go. At night my current routine is ... bed at 11. Wake up at 3 to take outside for 15 mins. Wake up at 6 to take outside for 15 mins and wake up at 8:30 for work. If I don't do this I find I will be stuck cleaning the crate in the morning which is a bit more work and I do not like to do.

| i HIGHLY suggest an X pen or a gate that you can block him in the kitchen or somewhere... it sounds like you need to spend your 4 days pee pad training..s ince he will be home alone all day he will be using a pee pad to go to the bathroom... you need to give him a large enough area to have one end for pee/poop (on the pads) and the other end of his area for his food/water and sleep area.. this can be a blanket, bed or his crate placed within the x pen... you really really should NOT leave him in his crate all day because he will have no choice but to pee and poop in it and he won't have access to food or water for the whole day... also in his x pen leave toys that are safe for him to be alone with... |

| We crate trained Bella but we got her in June so that my 16 year old could continue to work with her throughout the summer. She was 12 weeks old when we got her. She caught on very quickly and within a week she was going to the door but as far as having accidents it took until about 6 months before she was completely trust worthy. She definitely took a little longer than our Lab. It's going to be harder for you to crate train since you'll be at work all day. I would definitely keep him in an x-pen during the day when you're at work because he can't hold it that long at such a young age. How old is he by the way? Since the breeder has started the crate training I would follow whatever method he/she is using so that you don't confuse him, it will be familiar to him. In MHO crate training is the fastest and best way to potty train, I would never use another method. You should be able to find a lot of information on crate training in the training forums on this site as this has been brought up a lot. Just be very consistent and give LOTS of praise when he does what he's supposed to do, he'll really respond to that. Good luck

| It is very hard, i have a 4 mo. old and i just started crate training because he wasn't always going on the pad, i'm home all day though so this is easy for me to do, i keep him in the crate and take him out every 3 hours. He is doing well during the day however at night i do leave him in a pen with a pad because he can not hold it all night. The nights are very hard to train, you have to get up in the middle of the night to take them out. If you live in warm weather great, but hear in NJ with about 30 degrees or less at night not so great. |

| Welcome, I just have Bijour exactly one week now, and the little mister is already crate trained, first couple of days he raised hell, but now it is like paradise and he does not poo or pee in it anymore and does not cry YAYYYY, what to do is throw treats or bits of food in it and let him run after it. Then play fetch with him by throwing it in the box and let him go for it, and keep doing this over and over and he will see taht the box is not a bad place. I cover mine at night and the little furball sleeps like a baby with not a word out of him . I thought it would be hell as he is 5.3 months now. It went pretty fast Good luck and welcome |
