As said above.. keep in mind they can only hold it for so long as they are puppy's. Right now i have a 3 month old crate trained. It took me about a week and he will now stay quiet in the crate. However he starts to get restless when he has to go.

At night my current routine is ... bed at 11. Wake up at 3 to take outside for 15 mins. Wake up at 6 to take outside for 15 mins and wake up at 8:30 for work.

If I don't do this I find I will be stuck cleaning the crate in the morning which is a bit more work and I do not like to do.
