7 hours for a puppy is too long for him to be in his crate..they figure one hour for every month(5 mos. 5 hours)..maybe you should invest in a xpen..they don't like to soil where they sleep, but, being that young he will have too..with an xpen, you can put a pee pad in there, plus his bed, food, water and toys
