| I don't blame you a bit for being upset! That lady should NOT have brought her large puppies in with the small dogs. I don't think your dog should have been punished for being scared and reacting as he did. As far as socializing yorkies with big dogs, I don't see why they should be. Maddie was attacked once by a large dog whose owner said his dog would never hurt a flea. Maddie was traumatized over that and to this day, she is very cautious meeting even little dogs. It scared her and she remembers. A huge yelllow lab jumped our fence one night to get Maddie and thank goodness I was able to keep him away from her. He was after her and it wasn't to play! I don't care what kind of big dog it is...I don't let Maddie be around them and will never take a chance again. All it could take is one bite and she could be dead...or they could step on them and break their backs. Maddie has plenty of little puppy friends and I don't think she feels denied by not socializing with big dogs. I don't dislike big dogs...I just don't trust them around my yorkie. As far as coddling...I do and will continue to do so! I pick her up and protect her from big dogs. I'm not about to second guess what those dogs have in mind and I always hear, "My dog wouldn't hurt your yorkie." Yeah...that's what the guy told me whose dog did attack Maddie and that's what the owner to the yellow lab that jumped my fence to go after Maddie said. You and Tripp were NOT in the wrong at the dog park...the other dog owner WAS! Tripp was scared and reacted as any scared dog would!

| At our dog park there isnt a small or large breed division. So all dogs have to play together. We have only had one bad experience and that wasnt with my dog it was with my stepson. He was walking fast, not running and a huge doberman jumped on his back. The owner yelled at my step son "DONT RUN" well he was scared and walked ever faster!! Well the dobe just jumped him again!! Never in a million years would I let my dog jump someone else, running walking, whatever...if you cant keep a big dog from attacking someone keep it at home!! I dont even let my Darla who is 3lbs jump on people. I was very suprised she stayed with her dog and just kept yelling at people to stop walking so fast....I havent seen her back yet...I guess the evil eyes got to her. All dogs need to learn manners as do all humans! In your case, if the park is divided then the bigger breeds should stay on their side. I know Darla is used the the big dogs and sometimes she gets stepped on accidently but I would remove her from the situation too if I thought she was going to be harmed. Yorkies are very protective of their owners and she was probably just trying to protect her mommy!! Dawn |

| I'm going to try a dog park in about a week Max is getting his rabies shot on 8/25. This is his last shot and then I'd like to try the doggie park nearby. I do take him out, but I hold him so that he won't get sick. Yesterday we went into several stores. He was very curious and not crying, but was shaking the whole time. People kept coming over to him because yorkies are so cute. He stopped shaking when they paid attention to him. He also shakes in the car. I'm trying to get a Lookout I on e-bay. I'm hoping he's not too scared when he goes to the doggie park. I'll let you know! Judy |
