As this message was being posted I sent my husband to Target to get some Greenies and they didn't have the actual Greenie brand and was wondering if Quest Nutri Dent is the same thing?? They are shaped just like the toothbrushes. They are made by Nylabone.

Has anyone tried the Nylabone Nutri Dent Edible Dental Brush Chews? I purchased a package of these for my daughter's little chihuahua & she went crazy for them. Would they fall into the same category as the Greenies? I read/heard that Nylabones were one of the best/safest (if not the only) chewbone your dog should be given (& that statement didn't come from the Nylabone Co.!) http://www.nylabone.com/quest/index.html

Sure, if you give your Yorkie greenies constantly and too much it could easily cause a problem. Bounce only gets them 3 times a week. 4 if we're out of town and he needs something to help him be at ease. He's been on them since I had him at 3 years old. In fact, I encourage all of my customers to use them. They're great for the dental health. We just have to rememeber ANYTHING can cause problems like that, even something as simple as their dog food if that particular dog has some osrt of reaction in his/her system to whatever it may be. I guess it kinda goes with that saying, "Be careful but don't throw your life away b/c you have to worry about EVERYTHING." Anything can happen. It sucks, but it's life. I'm sorry for her loss. I know her heart must be breaking. The mini bits are meant for for SMALL small animals such as ferrets and hamsters and such. The petite greenies are better for our small babies. They digest a lot easier b/c their actually chewed. A lot of small dogs just inhale the mini bits.

Default Lil Bits?

I bought the "Lil Bits" size today and the package says it's for dogs under 10 lbs or less than 6 months old. The package says "choose the right size greenies for your dog" and it has a legend or a chsrt to help you pick the right one. I use them during my training sessions with Hefner because he loves them and he doesn't get many.

I am so sorry for your loss...that is very sad!

I bought greenies about a year ago both my little girls and boy all threw up after having a hayday with them, I never bought them again and threw the rest way!

I am so so very sorry!

Confused confused a little

Both Schatzie and Annabelle receive Greenies about twice a week. Id probably give them more often but the cost is so high, .

Im confused if it is ingredients in the Greenies that are causing blockage or if this could be caused by any ingested item like food, other edible chew items, etc.?

However, with all this aside...I am so very sorry for the loss of her Yorkie, this is very heartbreaking!

schatzie: it seems that if ANY dog or puppy doesn't chew the Greenies, that the situation with the Greenie blockage can happen, at least from the gross pictures I saw. The pictures show BIG Greenie chunks in a dog's stomach, as they can't properly digest the Greenies when it's a big chunk. While I definitely wouldn't want this to happen with anybody's baby, I would think that any bone or any kind of chew food COULD cause that kind of problem if not properly chewed by a dog.

Default An alternative

I agree ith fast eddie that it probably has little to do with the size of the Greenie and more to do with the dog's eating habbits and the way Greenies are digested. But I don't know. This is hardly scientfic evidence - at most it is antecdotal . I simply put the post up so that others would be put on notice. It could or could not have an effect on your dogs. But my question is, why take the chance? Dogs have existed for centurys without greenies, brushing and scaling their teeth does a much better job of keeping their teeth clean, enzymes like Prozyme and Missing link do a much better job of helping with digestion, and there is a myriad of dog treats on the market that there is absolutly no evidence of harm, that I wont be buying these for my dogs anymore - any size, shape or form. Why bother?

I have been using another product to keep their teeth clean. Who knows if they will find something wrong with this product too? So far, no problems and I have noticed my dogs teeth getting whiter!

It's called Leba III. Anyone else out there use it?

It's marketed by Lebalab inc out of Ontario

Luigi loves his greenies!!! And I will still give them to him. He only gets them when we are able to watch him and thats it. He gets mad when we leave and have to take it away from him. I give him the petites, and one usually lasts him bout 3 days. I think he likes to suck on it or lick it more than eat it!!!!!!!! He is also a very slow eater. It takes him bout 1- 1 1/2 hr to eat 1/4 of a cup of food!!!! He is soo silly. He also gets the nylabone brand which he loves also!!!! The nylabone edibles such as turkey flavor or carrot flavor are good too. It takes him 4 or 5 days to finish one of those!!!!!

Thank you Fasteddie! Annabelle from what I can tell chews her Greenies very well. Schatzie being that she mainly just has it hanging out of her mouth to tease Annabelle doesn't seem really too interested in eating them. In fact, her favorite activity is to toss them into the air, bounce around, pick it back up and toss it again. One of these days that Greenies gonna fly and hit Robert or I in the head, LOL. (There pretty hard and it just might kinda hurt a tad, ha ha)

I am not a yorkie owner yet but soon. I do have a boxer puppy that I gave Greenies to. I gave her one and she took a long time chewing it maybe 30-40mins. Then I thought she lost in under the couch. Then a couple of nights later I gave her another one and it was gone in minutes, so once again I thought the couch ate it. I found out 2 days later that she swollowed it almost whole. She was pacing all night as her tummy was all upset and almost puked it up in my bed. Poor girl, had it in her tummy for 2 days!
I looked at the bag and here in Canada they even have a warning on the bag saying pieces may cause blockage and could be fatal. Sure scared me so no more greenies for my boxer or my yorkie when I get her. I did see on the Petsmart site that they have a Greenie non-edible chew bone I think I will buy them instead.
I also think Greenies safety has to do with supervision and your dogs chewing habits.

I've been buying them in Toronto for a few months now and have seen no warning? Last I checked Toronto is part of Canada... Where did you see it? I buy mine at Dominion or local pet supply stores (I wont go into a store that sells dogs or cats).

I purchase them a week ago at a Real Canadian Superstore. Maybe mine are from a newer batch with new warnings.

Edited to add I also found a similar warning on the Greenies website under Feeding Inst.

" CAUTION: As with any edible product, monitor your dog to ensure the treat is adequately chewed. Gulping any item can be harmful or even fatal to a dog."
