| Teeth, Oral Products, Dental Chews, Dental Toys Hi, As I have previously stated in some of my posts, I rescued and older Yorkie. The original owner just sent me the vet records which indicate she had brought the dog to the vet in june and the vet told her the dog needed a dental but she never did it or told me about this. I found out recently from my own vet and am now searching for someone who is good in my area and who works on small dogs. I suspected a problem when I saw specks of blood on a chew toy I bought for her called Booda Fresh 'n Floss Mini Rope toy. I started using Tropiclean Dental Gel and wiping it on her teeth with guaze. AND I switched her to dry food. I now do not see any blood at all, however I am still taking her for a dental as soon as I find a competent dental vet and the weather calms down in NY. I was giving her a blue nylabone with nubs on it but she was chewing off the nubs and now I don't give her any 'plastic' chew toy. Instead I started giving her edible chews. I just switched her to Zukes Z-Bones Mini Dental Chews, which appear to made of very healthy ingredients. If anyone has any other suggestions on home care teeth cleaning that I haven't received yet, please let me know. My pet shop manager says he uses the toothpaste from nylabone because it has vitamin C in it. Right now I am just using the Tropiclean Gel until I get to a good dental vet. |

| I only use the gels, toothpastes, coconut oil, or dental rinses on mine. I know the chews can cause blockages in small dogs (check the fine print... many recommended only for dogs over 10-20#). As for rope toys, one of mine got tangled up in one so I feel they're unsafe. Feeding kibble to clean the teeth is a myth. Best practice is brushing the teeth (using Q-tips or gauze is fine, until a brush is accepted by the dog).

| I make felted wool toys for my guys...they are very durable and clean their teeth too...You can buy them too in stores. They even survive my dachshund who is quite an aggressive chewer! When they were teething I would get them wet and freeze them and sometimes I smear a little coconut oil on them, or almond butter. They wash up very well Last edited by Peekzma; 02-28-2014 at 03:46 PM. |

| PetzLife Oral Care Gel, VET Dentahex Oral Rinse, any kind of enzymatic toothpaste (need to get a tube)... Coconut oil is naturally anti bacterial and works it's way under the tartar and coats the teeth... even putting it on their food will help their teeth. I don't use any additives to their water.
