Help Hi guys, I am not too sure if I am putting my questions on the correct part of this site. I am looking for some help and advice from you all as you all seem to be very experienced people in looking after little yorkies. My boyfriends mum has 2 little yorkies, Roxy and Roddy, they have had a little pup (only one as the other died) And I am now going to be a mummy as I am to have the little pup. I dont know where to start. I have spoke to different people i.e friends/family who have had yorkies but I just don't know where to start with the house training. I have read some of the info and you talk about crate training, can you explain what this means? Also someone I know used newborn nappies with their puppy, they would never do the toilet in the nappy so kept it on at certain times and took it off to go outside, has anyone heard of this ????? I live in a flat and will be at work during the day so will most probably leave my puppy in the kitchen, should I leave down puppy pads for her ? Some people have told me not to as this makes it harder for them to realise to go outside to do the toilet. I am just stuck as to what to do, I wont get my puppy until July so I am trying to get all the info I can beforehand so I am prepared. Also is it a good idea to let your puppy sleep in the room with you ? And how many times should you feed your puppy? I have so many questions. I hope someone can help. Thanks Guys! Nikki x

Congratulations! For house training I got a crate for Tino - half with newspaper and bed on other side - he went in there for a wee. Then I started leaving a potty pad in the room instead - I took his crate down. Then you slowly move it towards the back door or wherever you want them to wee. Or thats what I did anyway and it seemed to work. Any pictures of your baby?

No pics as yet, I am going to visit her next weekend so hopefully can take some then. When you say a crate, what do u mean exacty? Is it like a cage they are kept in all day. It's just I will be out at work and I dont want to leave her locked in a crate all day. Also do you know if yorkies tend to chew on furniture, skirtings etc. I am worried about this. Do you think it will be ok to leave her in the kitchen during the day, and leave puppy pads down for her. Then try and train her to go out. I am really worried I am going to do it all wrong. How many yorkies do you have? What are there names ? Thank You so much for replying, much appreciated.

A crate is something that looks like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BRAND-NEW-42-2...QQcmdZViewItem Its personal preference if you want to use one. We used it till he was about 3 months old. You could leave yours in the kitchen, with the crate in there and let her go in and out as she chooses with the potty pad either in the crate or in a corner of the room. For the first 3 months we kept him in the crate overnight so there was no accidents but he sleeps in our bed now and he's brill. | |

That's great, you seem to have done really well with yours. So you wouldn't leave him locked in it during the day when you were out, only at night time ? And does he now realise he needs to go outside to pee pee? A lot of people I have spoke to have said it can take a long time for them to be properly house trained and that sometimes they will still do the toilet in the house. Also someone else used newborn nappies, cut a hole in it for the tail and the pup never done the toilet in the nappy. Have u heard of this ? I hadn't. I will probably look at getting a crate as this seems to be the best idea. Thanks again

I dont think I'd use the nappy idea - it did take till he was about 5 months old to be fully trained. He has the run of the downstairs of the house when we go out ie. kitchen and living room. And when we're out we leave a potty pad at the back door - but when we're in - he goes outside. We havent had any accident for a while (touch wood). So there was only 1 baby in your litter? We're looking for a little girl. You can email me if you'd like to and I'll tell you all that I can. My email address is alona1@o2.co.uk.
