YorkieTalk Newbie! | Decent food brands in Italy / Europe Hi, I have a 5 months old female puppy who rejects to eat RC kibbles. I have to add chicken or beef in order to make it more appetible. I tried dry vegetables and cereal mix with fresh meat (cooked) which Jabba loved way too much and she ate her poop. Two days ago she had a bit of diarrhea with mucus, I guess just garbage eating syndrome, she eats everything that she finds outside (that also proves me how bad could actually taste RC kibbles ) and I gave her boiled rice with boiled ground no fat beef. since one day she didn't have BM. Unfortunately in Italy I cannot find all quality raw food brands that exist in the US or Canada, no canned pumpkin for constipation either. Her vet is still on holidays. Any suggestions for DIY solutions or knowledge about good food brands in my region?? |

How is Jabba doing now - what is she eating? I can't get canned, unsweetened pumpkin over here, either. Occasionally I'll cook a whole one, then freeze into portions for 'if and when'... I feel really stupid, knowing nothing about foods available in Italy, sorry! Sally + Harry x

| I've heard good things about Farmina, but I believe it's only kibble and canned. https://translate.google.com/transla...m/&prev=search Farmina Pet Foods - Happy pet. Happy You. | Happy pet. Happy you.

Actually there is only one type of RC puppy formula in Italy. Yorkshire terrier junior: cibo per Yorkshire terrier She never wanted to eat that. Is she starves to dead looking into my eyes with an expression like she hates me she eats it, but if I add a piece of chicken and mix she eats all. I guess it's just a matter of taste

I have raised breeding dogs that MUST be in tip top shape, on RC for many years, from cradle to grave, as well as my own personal pups prior to my breeding business, and they have done wonderfully on it. We have no food issues around here, thank goodness! Everyone loves it, eats it, and thrives on it....some would eat one or the other formulas, so I just put everyone on the Adult Mini RC and everyone gets the same formula and thrives on it.....My breeding females have their diet adjusted to the correct RC formula in accordance with their pregnancy, but other than that adjustment for the pregnant females, everyone eats the same formula. No food associated issues or problem, no illnesses with major organ failure....did have one that MAY have had pancreatitis, but she ate the RC diet specifically for that issue, and never had another problem.... | I used to feed my dogs Royal Canin but it is not a quality food. According to a very reliable site (Dog food advisor --> http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/) RC gets only two and a half stars: Royal Canin Breed-Specific Adult Dog Food | Review and Rating However, the brand I feed my dogs, Acana, gets 5/5. Acana Dog Food | Review and Rating I found that ACANA has an Italian site, so hopefully you can find it near you, I think Milano should have a good selection of stores and good availability. Italian Acana website: Acana | Alimenti di ricchi di proteine per cani e gatti Good luck and I hope you find Acana - it is very good quality for a dry dog food and is one of the only brands to consistently pass food investigations where most other brands fail.

Sorry.....your "bible for advice on proper dog food" is a joke....."dog food advisor????!!! Surely you jest...!!!!! Read up on his qualifications!!! He gets his recommendations from the specific dog food companies he promotes! Wont get into this discussion again, however, if YOU prefer whatever, great....but dont dish another food, ANY food, based on "the dog food advisor's recommendations" or people that choose to worship his advice!!! Anyone that knows this man's site for any number of years knows how and why and what drives this particular site! By his OWN admission, he gets his reviews from the brand of food he justifies as being outstanding. Guess he couldnt collect anything from Royal Canin to justify naming them as "a favorite" of his. There are MANY excellent foods out there....talk to people that have actual knowledge and experience feeding particular foods, as well as valid pet food recalls. I have personally used Royal Canin for my dogs for the last 30 something years...excellent results, excellent health in my dogs, excellent conditioning of my dogs.....and I dont get a dad gum dime from RC for advocating their food, no do I get any food for singing their praises...it is a greaqt food and my dogs have for many, many years thrived and benefitted from eating it!... And for goodness sake, PLEASE dont make yourself a "dog food expert" by announcing ANY particular dog food is "not a quality food"!! There is no way you can honestly and fairly justify such a judgement call for it's validity. You can say YOU dont like it, YOU dont feed it, YOU dont blah, blah, blah.....but YOU cant honestly justify such a condemnation of ANY dog food, especially based on "the dog food advisor"!!!! Such a disqualifier!!! This could be equated to saying carrots are the only food source you need to eat because Bugs Bunny said so and YOU love Bugs Bunny!!! | Well, you only promote RC because you use it. Dog Food Advisor is not the only source that recommends Acana, there are many others, that was just the easiest for me to quote. This is the only reply I am going to give you on this topic - but I definitely don't think your advice is more qualified than mine and that was a pretty nasty and condescending post you wrote to me who was just giving advice to another poster asking for other foods as her dog did not like RC - Acana is definitely an alternative.

YOU said you changed to another brand from RC because of what you read from YOUR "bible/leader" on dog food. You did not say you were having issues with the RC, you just read something someone threw out there that professes to be a genius on all dog food, a genius that gathers his validation from the dog food brands he promotes, oh by the way.....and you are throwing THAT out as "the truth", "the way", "the light"..... There are thousands of brands out there that thousands of people feed. If someone PREFERS a particular brand or method, great!! Be an advocate for that brand or method....but it really peeves me when someone says any dog food is "no good", solely based on a paid campaign such as the "dog food advisor"...... Throw out valid information for people to use, such as recalls, etc.... Feel free to promote what YOU use, but dont throw the rest of us under the bus, especially based on such a joke as "the dog food advisor"! There are hundreds of thousands of people that use RC, and have done so with excellent results, for many, many, many years. I have actually visited their facility and seen the way the food is tested and produced and re-tested....I have seen the staff of vets, vets of all specialized systems, nutritionists, breeders, etc., they have on hand that contribute to the information that is utilized in the production of RC....have YOU??? People feed what their pups eat and what they can afford to feed and what is available to them. The first thing people should do, in my opinion, is pull up recalls...check out the history of recalls on any dog food you want to feed. I personally would avoid any dog food that has been recalled numerous times, especially for strange contents, questionable additives, sick pets, etc..... Be aware of what dogs can actually safely eat, and the age appropriateness for particular food.....I almost killed an entire litter, feeding raw meat because I thought raw would be best for them....WRONG! I almost killed them all because they were too young to eat raw meat and it caused an overgrowth of bacteria in their systems they were too young to fight. Did you even consider the issue of this baby being only 5 months old and the owner is already getting into switching and swapping all over the place, trying to get a dog food this youngster will eat...this is causing mass confusion for the pup and turmoil for the owner. If the pup will eat the RC by adding a little chicken or broth to the food, THAT would be better for the dog than jumping and hopping all over the place, trying this and trying that, ....leave the baby on the RC, add some little cooked carrots or pieces of meat, and stop the merry-go-round of changing dog food...you are creating a huge problem, trying to cater to the whims of the baby...when this baby is a year old, it will be better able to tolerate changing out to either a different brand if you choose, or advancing the pup to the next age appropriate RC formula that is available to you....but you are creating a monster by switching and swapping and changing around all these dog foods! Pup will eat the RC if you add a little meat or broth, do THAT! Contrary to what "Reinell" and her guru, the "dog food advisor" says, RC is indeed an excellent food and unless your baby is unable to tolerate the food, it will be a great source of nutrition for your baby. Just dont be getting all caught up in the confusion of swapping all over the place, or you are really going to have a mess on your hands that will persist for years!
