We're going to sound like a broken record but here goes. Please check out the YTCA. They are the mother club of the yorkshire terrier and have a breeder referral list. They are a great resource when looking for a reputable breeder. That is not to say their list is complete. You can start calling around and most breeders will refer you to other breeders that are not on the list, but that are also members of the YTCA.

Thank you all for your posts, I greatly appreciate it. I have been and visited some of the breeders on YTCA, that is where I found (to me) the perfect breeder. I just don't want to pick out my pup at 5 weeks. I feel that you cannot get their true personality. What do you think on that?

Share your concerns with the breeder. If you're not comfortable with how that particular breeder does things, ask her to refer you to someone else.

I would never expect anyone to select their pup at that age. Since the breeder should not release the pups until they are close to 12 weeks old, I see no reason the breeder could not let you select your pup at around 10 weeks.

Try calling Jubilee Yorkshire Terriers in NH. Her website is www.jubileeyorkshireterriers.com she has a male pup available. She is a member of YTCA.

Well, the thread is for Good Breeders, doesn't specify Yorkie breeders, so no reason good Biewer breeders can't be listed too

That's odd that the one breeder wants you to chose your puppy at only five weeks. Most reputable breeders don't even want people visiting until the puppies are at least six weeks old for fear of parvo which can be carried in on shoes.

How long of a wait list does the other breeder have? It often takes a year to get a puppy from a reputable breeder.

Have you asked the breeders who may not have anything available to refer you to other breeders? The YTCA members probably know of other show breeders who may not be as well known who may have puppies.

Try to remember that hopefully you will have this dog for 15 years so taking the time to find a good breeder now is well worth it.

I got Morgan from Deb Dickson small breed Pups in Sturgis, SD in July of this year. i had looked around on the internet and wanted to find a breeder closer to me so that I could drive and not have to fly such a small dog. She has a separate Building that has camera's inside that go into the house and she has a separate area that she has your puppy in when you arrive. She only has people there by appt only. You walk into the building and you cant even smell any dogs, I will definitely get my next yorkie fron her. she has a 2 year guarantee and lists her vet on her website. she does breed other small dogs also.
