I would never let me dogs go without medical or anything else. I would do without first. I did call and ask about the decongestant. I am able to use a little plain saline just a drop in the nose and that will help to flush out whatever crap may be in there. It is non medicated, just simple saline. He said they use that on infants quite often because when they are sick it helps to clear the airways. I will not skimp on her. I'll have done whatever is needed, I just posted here because I felt that it does not hurt to ask others who may have had this experience and maybe their vets told them something different or maybe they know a remedy they've used etc. For example someone suggested Temural (may be spelling it wrong) they said it knocked it right out of their baby. Well, today I asked my vet about it but he said that is not an antibiotic and asked if I was refering to and he said another name. I forget what it was, but I do when people say things that they have used or experiences they've had I do ask the vet because I feel that MANY heads are sometimes better then just one. So I thank everyone for their input.

Did you see someone's post about the mucus color? It may have got lost in the... mess. I forget who posted it now. I should have found it and quoted it.

Harty Girl. First of all, I made the mistake of believing and trusting and have admitted this. I have already explained on here that it took three years for this woman to gain my trust. For years I'd advocated NOT to buy from her because she brokered and you do not know how the parents are being treated of those pups she has. I ASSUMED "Susan's" stud fee puppy, which was not the case. Glenda and Susan work back and forth together with pups and studding and they even co-own a dog together. I had many conversation with Glenda and really liked her.

I have rescues. I work in rescue and I would NEVER intentionally add to the problem. I trusted them both. There were no issues with Brooklyn when I got her other then a cough which Susan said was from the kennel cough vaccine. She was not sick like Mia. AND, almost two years later she is perfect and healthy. I had not reason to believe Mia wouldn't be too. AND, I would never buy from someone who gets pups from mills etc. I ONLY found out through a third party that she still does broker pups not only from Glenda but other places too. If I had known this I would never have dealt with her even IF the pups were fine because I DO NOT ADVOCATE buying from people that support commercial kennels or puppy mills. Believe me when I say ALL of this, not just my experience is being dealt with and that's really all I can say other then I made a mistake.

I do not blame you for saying what you have said about me. It is something I would say to someone too because I believe as you do. The pup was sick and was treated when purchased, and sent home with meds.

When a pup gets sick, the immune system gets a workout producing antibodies to fight off the infection. So a pup with a cough or sniffles is a sick pup.

When a pup is vaccinated, the pup's immune system is challenged and begins producing antibodies against the disease he is being vaccinated against, very similar to the way his body would react if he were sick from the disease, but to a lesser extent. This process can run for 4 weeks, at which time the pup's production of antibodies comes to a halt.

When a SICK PUP is VACCINATED, the antibodies the pup was producing to fight the illness stops, and the body starts to work on producing antibodies against the vaccine, which can cause the illness to remain longer in the pup's system. This is one reason why sick pups should not be vaccinated.

The second reason is that the sick pup cannot produce the optimal amount of antibodies against the vaccine, and the antibodies in the pup's system from the illness may attack the vaccine and render it ineffective. The pup will need to have these vaccines redone when it is healthy.

When Vaccinating small dogs, especially tinies:
Small dogs will produce a stronger vaccine response for each vaccine when given the DHPP 4 weeks apart from the Rabies. This allows their small bodies to rest and recover inbetween vaccinations.

To the owners of small and tinies:

You need to learn about vaccines for your babies. Vaccines are made strong enough to immunize a 100 pound dog. For smaller dogs, giving these vaccines together can overload their immune systems and can cause problems in the future.

Vets may have differing opinions on vaccines and could make a mistake, or in many cases the techs set up the vaccines for the vet in advance, and may pull up the wrong ones.

The safest way to keep your dog healthy is to learn the vaccines, check the vials in the exam room before it is injected into your dog, and learn to say 'no' if you ever don't understand what the vet is giving your dog.

Lepto is a controversial vaccine. To prevent the disease, do not let your pup drink rainwater from puddles in the road. It is spread through urine of an infected animal and is more common on farms and rural areas.

A vaccine reaction will be more likely to occur the second time a dog receives the vaccine.

Yes. She was according the shot records up to date on her shots. Her next round was due I think a few days after the purchase date. E.

I should correct this. I know she brokers for Glenda but they are partners too. They co-own a dog together so to me it was more of buying from both of them. What I meant to say is that I did not know Susan dealt with other places to get pups from. She had told me that she does not broker anymore, just sells Glenda's pups and her own from her own breeding program. Someone JUST sent me information that shows she gets her pups also from PA mills. I did not know this until now or I would never have bought from her believee me. I would NEVER support ANYONE like that. I feel terrible because I truly liked both of them and never would have thought any of this. My husbad is a retired police officer and has said "This is how con men operate." I have a pretty trusting nature. This has changed that.

What I had suggested you ask your vet about is Temaril P. Yes, it's not an antibiotic but did work on my pup when antibiotics didn't. My pup was sick for over 3 weeks before the vet prescribed it.

This is some info on it.....

"Temaril-P® is effective in treating canine coughing, including tracheobronchitis-also known as kennel cough. It may also be used to treat coughs due to allergies and other conditions, except those related to the heart.

Temaril-P® is also adjunctive therapy for chronic or acute bacterial infections, when the infection is being controlled by antibiotics or chemotherapy."

My vet was concerned about letting a developing pup go sick for so long. I suggested you ask your vet about it as it may not come to mind to prescribe it since it isn't an antibiotic. Of course, you have to go with your vet on what medications are prescribed. The boiled chicken w/ celery I mentioned earlier I can safely recommend (no prescription needed) .

Hope Mia continues to improve.

I have to look at her folder and then I'll let you know. I don't have it handy. From what I was told and what was written, it was everything she was suppose to get and then she was due for shots again at 16 weeks. She was less then a week shy of 16 weeks when we picked her up, so she was a few days shy of being due for shots again at time of purchase. I'll look it up and post them. Elaine

I know you feel as I do, that's why I was pretty shocked to read this thread today. I am very sorry if I hit below the belt and said some ugly things. People shock me every day with what they are willing to do to make or save a buck.
I respect you saying that you'll make it right and I certainly hope you can. I wish that those 2 are called what they are and that they reconsider their so called program and call it quits.

Clear mucous from the nose is okay.... any tint or color or cloudiness to it she will need antibiotics, again. A runny nose in a young pup can quickly turn into pneumonia. If it turns cloudy or white, get her on ABs ASAP... you won't have time for that new test to be run...

Thanks... I think I would still wait another month. I do know the times to give it are set according to the prevalence of the disease cases in each state. I did hear of 2 months but I can't remember where that is...
