I know with Lexie she had a c-section and was pretty much out of it, but I had to put her in a little crate to stay with them at first, I would also put her on my bed and get her to lay on her side and help and make sure they were nursing, the boy we had no problems he was trying to suck everything but the girl worried me, and they both weighed 3.5, make sure he is warm and she is doing good, Lexie wouldn't ever stay near them for long, but after the meds wore off that night you can't get her away, you may have to help him nurse on her till he and she gets the hang of it.

So far so good. I put him on his mom 2x and then transferred him to a more experienced mom and put one of her babies on Jewel. Everyone seems happy except that baby. Boy is he loud! Grandma just had babies yesterday so he should still be getting the colestrum. I guess I won't get much sleep tonight, watching him and the other babies. Sylvia

Yes, I am sure he is premature. I didn't write down when she bred because she didn't properly tie and I didn't think she would get pregnant. By the time I knew she was pregnant it was to late to do more than estimate when the babies were due. She should not have delivered earlier than next Tuesday and by the looks of the babies it would have been better if she could have held them until next Friday. Yes, she's done delivering. She started in labor yesterday but at noon today had this little boy and almost as soon as she had him cleaned up she delivered the girl. She was done in less than 15 minutes. She does have milk but she doesn't like me expressing it for the baby. I did put the baby with grandma and took one of grandma's babies and put with Jewel. They all seem happy with the situation. Yes, I may have to work long and hard with the baby but Jewel seems to know what to do with this other baby. The baby is quiet and settled down next to her. Sylvia

LOL Good thing my hubby worries about them more than I do. LOL We can trade off but night before last he stayed up with me instead of going to bed so he could watch them while I slept so we are both tired. Sylvia

The pictures are here but if anyone has posted more pictures you might have to look a little for them. I think there are 12 or 13 of them. I just couldn't get a good picture of the side of his head. I took pictures of another puppy and they didn't turn out like these did. Sylvia

It seems the switch is doing well, getting mom use to a pup at least. Bless his heart, crying all the time. I'm like you, hope that's not indicative of anything being wrong. I don't know if I read right or not, has his hurse or eaten yet? That's great that you know how to tube, it's a good way to know their definitely getting so much (cc's) of food.

Next time you put him with mom just to let them bond, I've heard of smearing peanut butter (or something mom may like) on the puppy. That will help them to lick them and "acquaint" themselves with one another.

I feel for you tonight, I know you'll be worried about him. We'll be thinking of you two, and checking in.

Thank you, prayers for our little ones would be appreciated. I thot about putting something on him but she seems to be doing ok with the little one we loaned her. I will try switching them back later tonight and see if everything works out properly. Yes, he did nurse on his mama but she was fighting me until the endorphins kicked in or whatever. But if she moved even a little he would lose his grip. Grandma has longer nipples so he can get a better grip on her. The other baby with mama can calm her down and show her how it is done and then when I put him back maybe everything will work. Sylvia

That sounds like a good plan you have. Do you think he's crying because he's hungry? If you think he hasn't eaten a whole lot, I would (if I were in this situation) tube him the supplement and see if he'll stop crying and be satisfied a while. They cry like the dickens when they're hungry. Just a thought

Yes he does look premature, And I think you are doing a wonderful job. If you can get him to eat and keep his body warm then I would not worry about taking him to the vet. with being early I wouldnt take him around all the germs at the vets, Or in the night air.Theres not a lot the vet can do for one so young or small. But if you feel some thing is worng with him then yes he might need a vet to check him out. The best milk is the mommys milk,Im sure with it being Mommas first time shes just unsure on what to do, But shell catch on soon. I wish mommy and baby the best of luck and I will keep them in my prayers. Keep up the good work. I hope it all goes well and that you are able to get some rest. take care.

The three things your puppy needs is Warmth, Hydration and Glucose.
Also make sure he is pottying.
So thats actually 4 things. My vet told me that is all he can do when one is early is the three things I first listed.
Best of luck
